Salary Range for Position Within $85,298.83 - $120,000 Annually

JOB SUMMARY:
Under direction of the City Engineer, performs professional engineering work in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of traffic control devices and programs. The incumbent serves as liaison between Federal, State and County on transportation and traffic engineering matters. The employee also provides traffic engineering services to the City's agencies, City Council, Neighborhood Association and the public. Work is reviewed through conferences and written reports for adherence to established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as liaison between Federal, State and County officials on transportation and traffic engineering matters.

Plans, directs and conducts traffic surveys, volume analyses, accident analyses and parking surveys.

Reviews site plan and traffic impact studies; conducts traffic engineering studies and signal operation monitoring surveys.

Develops engineering plans for signal and channelization installations.

Prepares traffic signal timing schedules and diagrams.

Recommends street striping and signage installations.

Determines the need and justification for traffic control devices, parking lot entrances and one-way streets.

Initiates intersection improvement projects, identifies and secures funds to complete such projects.

Analyzes traffic problems and provides solutions.

Advises elected officials and other departments on transportation and traffic issues.

Provides technical guidance on neighborhood traffic management and implications.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil engineering with a heavy emphasis on traffic engineering.

Three (3) years of experience in engineering of which one (1) year must be in traffic engineering.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida is required.
Preferred:
-
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering with a heavy emphasis on traffic engineering.

Three (3) years of experience in traffic engineering.
-
Experience with surveying.
Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
All successful applicants will be required to pass an extensive background which may include criminal history searches, driving history checks, credit report, courthouse searches, education verification, employment verification, professional license verification, or other search methods as deemed necessary for the position. In addition, the applicant will be required to undergo a medical examination, which may include a drug screening, prior to appointment.
EMPLOYMENT OF RELATIVES: The City of Hollywood has an Ordinance which regulates the employment of relatives of City employees. Effective January 28, 2008, a relative may only be hired under the following additional conditions:

The relative must have competed in an appropriate examination process as determined by Human Resources and be placed on a civil service eligibility list;

The relative must be among the top three ranked candidates available on the certified eligibility list unless expanded by the Civil Service Board;

The Department or Office Director and the Director, Human Resources must demonstrate that it is in the best interests of the City of Hollywood to hire the relative of a public officer or employee.
As of 12/15/2005 the City will require all newly hired employees to sign an affidavit affirming non-usage of tobacco or tobacco products within the last year prior to submission of application and will continue to be a non-user of tobacco products throughout employment with the City of Hollywood.
