A warm, laid-back family in Cary is seeking an experienced, nurturing, and proactive full-time nanny to join their family in mid-to-late September. The family currently has a toddler and is expecting a baby girl in December 2026. Mom will likely be on maternity leave through April/May 2027, and the nanny will gradually transition into caring for both children as the baby grows.
The family is looking for someone who is empathetic, nurturing, trustworthy, and genuinely passionate about working with young children. They value competence, character, curiosity, and long-term relationships. Mom and Dad both work demanding jobs in the tech industry and do not have family nearby, so they are looking for someone who can become a trusted and dependable part of their family for years to come.
Their home is in a safe Cary neighborhood with walking access to Greenway trails and a grocery store. They also have two small, hypoallergenic dogs, so the ideal candidate should be comfortable with furry family members. The home also has a private pool, so someone who enjoys swimming is the best fit!
Responsibilities:
The nanny will serve as the primary caregiver for their toddler and, once the baby arrives and mom returns to work, her younger sibling.
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing attentive, nurturing care while supporting the children's health, safety, development, and daily routines
- Preparing and serving children's meals and snacks
- Cleaning up after children's meals and playtime
- Sanitizing children's toys and play areas, particularly during cold and flu season
- Refilling diaper stations and emptying diaper pails as needed
- Completing children's laundry twice per week
- Washing and assembling bottles and pumping accessories
- During the newborn stage, logging feedings, sleep, and diaper changes in the family's app
- Creating fun, enriching experiences and getting the children out of the house regularly
The family values an active and engaging approach to childcare and enjoys outings to parks, libraries, museums, music classes, swimming, playdates, and play cafés. They currently have memberships to Bumble Brews and the Durham Museum of Life and Science and are open to recommendations for additional activities and memberships.
Ideal Candidate:
The family is seeking someone who has:
- At least 5 years of professional full-time nanny experience
- Experience caring for multiple children simultaneously
- Strong infant and toddler experience
- Reliable transportation
- Infant/Child CPR certification
- Current flu and Tdap vaccinations
- A successful background check, including a clean criminal and driving record
- Comfort around dogs
- Comfort with water safety and a family who has a private pool
- Non-Smoker
- A proactive, punctual, dependable, and active approach to childcare
Bonus qualifications include (not required):
- 10+ years of experience caring for children from newborn through toddlerhood
- Experience teaching swimming to toddlers
- Early childhood development education or experience teaching pre-K
- Mandarin language skills
Schedule & Compensation:
Start Date: Mid-to-late September 2026, some flexibility with start date
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week, with occasional additional hours available when mutually agreed upon in advance
Schedule:
- Monday & Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Tuesday & Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Friday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Pay: $25-$28/hour to start, depending on experience and qualifications.
Compensation will increase when the nanny assumes responsibility for both children in early 2027.
The family takes approximately 15-20 days of vacation each year and would like the nanny to have discretionary PTO in addition to the family's travel time. Because the family has a busy schedule and may occasionally need additional support, there may be opportunities for overtime when agreed upon in advance.
The initial contract will be for one year, but the family is ideally seeking someone who would love to grow with them for the next several years. They hope to find a nanny who sees this as more than just a job and is excited about building a lasting relationship with their family as their children grow.
