Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily warehouse and logistics operations, including receiving, storage, material handling, palletization, shipment preparation, staging, and outbound transportation.
- Lead and manage warehouse supervisors, employees, temporary labor, and transportation personnel.
- Establish appropriate staffing levels and schedules based on workload and customer requirements.
- Monitor labor productivity, overtime, temporary staffing costs, and other controllable operating expenses.
- Develop processes to improve efficiency, productivity, accuracy, and profitability.
- Ensure customer-specific packaging, labeling, palletization, and shipping requirements are consistently met.
- Maintain strong relationships with customers and respond promptly to operational or service issues.
- Coordinate transportation schedules, drivers, equipment, and customer deliveries.
- Oversee the proper utilization and preventative maintenance of forklifts, warehouse equipment, trucks, trailers, and other operational assets.
- Maintain a safe workplace and ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, forklift, transportation, and company safety requirements.
- Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and employee development.
- Review and approve vendor invoices and recurring operating expenses.
- Process and ensure timely payment of company bills and vendor obligations.
- Monitor accounts payable, vendor statements, and outstanding balances.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and supporting records for payments and expenses.
- Work with ownership, bookkeepers, accountants, and other financial professionals to ensure expenses are properly recorded and financial information remains current.
- Identify unusual, unexpected, or excessive expenses and bring material discrepancies to ownership's attention.
- Monitor operational KPIs and provide ownership with regular reporting regarding productivity, labor costs, customer service, equipment, expenses, and overall business performance.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve operating margins.
- Assist ownership with budgeting, operational planning, capital expenditures, and long-term business improvements.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and accountability throughout the organization.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in warehousing, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, transportation, or a similar operational environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of management experience overseeing employees and day-to-day operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a substantial hourly workforce.
- Experience managing labor productivity, scheduling, overtime, and staffing levels.
- Experience working with temporary or contract labor is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of warehouse operations, forklifts, material handling, shipping/receiving, and workplace safety.
- Experience with trucking or transportation operations is preferred but not required.
- Experience with accounts payable, invoice review, expense coding, vendor payments, and basic financial administration is preferred.
- Strong leadership and employee-management skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- High level of attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable analyzing operational and financial information, including labor costs, expenses, and productivity metrics.
- Proficient with basic business technology, spreadsheets, email, and operational reporting.
- Ability to work effectively in a hands-on operating environment and maintain a visible presence throughout the facility.
Ideal Candidate
