Position Summary
The Overnight Track & Trace Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and supporting active freight shipments throughout the overnight hours. This position serves as the primary point of contact for loads in transit when the daytime operations team is unavailable.
The primary focus of this role is to maintain visibility of all active shipments, communicate with drivers and carriers, identify potential service issues, and take appropriate action to keep freight moving. When problems arise, the Overnight Track & Trace Coordinator will work to develop solutions while keeping customers and internal team members informed.
This is an entry-level logistics position with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in transportation operations, carrier management, customer service, and problem resolution.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor and track active shipments throughout the overnight shift.
- Contact drivers and carriers to confirm pickup, in-transit status, location, ETA, and delivery.
- Ensure shipment statuses and relevant notes are accurately updated within the company's Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Identify potential late pickups, late deliveries, service failures, or other transportation issues before they become critical.
- Communicate delays, service issues, and updated ETAs to customers and appropriate internal personnel.
- Work directly with carriers and drivers to resolve issues that arise while freight is in transit.
- Coordinate repowers or replacement equipment when a driver or carrier is unable to complete a shipment.
- Assist in developing solutions for late-running shipments to minimize service failures and customer impact.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns, driver issues, missed appointments, weather delays, and other unexpected transportation disruptions.
- Escalate significant service issues to appropriate management when necessary.
- Maintain clear and detailed documentation of overnight activity so the daytime operations team has an accurate understanding of each shipment's status.
- Provide a thorough handoff of unresolved issues, critical shipments, and important updates to the daytime operations team.
- Maintain professional communication with customers, carriers, drivers, and internal employees.
- Perform other transportation and operational support duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous logistics, transportation, dispatch, or customer service experience is preferred but not required.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn transportation management and tracking systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain organized while monitoring multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to identify problems and make sound decisions in a time-sensitive environment.
- Comfortable communicating by phone, email, and electronic messaging with drivers, carriers, customers, and coworkers.
- Ability to work independently with limited overnight supervision.
- Dependable attendance and ability to consistently work an overnight schedule.

Schedule
This position works an overnight/midnight schedule and is responsible for maintaining operational coverage during hours when the primary daytime operations staff is unavailable. Weekend and holiday availability may be required based on business needs.

Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
