Full Job Description

CNC MACHINE OPERATOR

At Perseus Defense, we build counter-UAS systems for the U.S. Department of War and Homeland Security. Our mission is to enable the mass production of micro-guided missiles that are affordable, scalable, and portable — low-cost autonomous capability that integrates tracking and engagement into a single system for under $10K per shot.

Job Overview

As a CNC Machine Operator, you'll run and monitor CNC equipment producing precision machined components for our missile and launcher systems. You'll understand how the equipment operates well enough to run production, catch issues before they become defects, and know exactly when and how to intervene — without needing to write or edit CNC programs yourself.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or other CNC equipment to produce parts to specification
Load programs, fixtures, and tooling as directed by engineering or a lead machinist
Monitor machine operation during production runs, identifying abnormal conditions and stopping equipment when necessary
Perform in-process inspection using standard measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify parts meet tolerance
Perform basic tool changes, offsets, and adjustments within established procedures
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machine shop environment
Flag quality or process issues to engineering and machining leads for resolution

Qualifications

1+ years of experience operating CNC equipment in a machine shop or manufacturing environment
Ability to read basic engineering drawings and use standard measurement tools
Understanding of machine safety procedures and ability to safely stop/halt equipment when needed
Strong attention to detail and reliability in a production environment
Experience with CNC mills and/or lathes specifically
Familiarity with metal machining (aluminum, steel, titanium)
Experience in aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environments
Basic understanding of CNC programming concepts (not required to write programs)

Additional Requirements

U.S. Person status required (ITAR)
Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment. Must be willing to work extended hours when needed to support production deadlines, on-site in Austin, TX
