Job Description and Duties

This position is Limited Term (12 months); it may become permanent, be extended up to 24 months, or be cancelled at any time.

Under direction of the Program and Project Supervisor of the Equitable Building Decarbonization Branch of the Reliability, Renewable Energy & Decarbonization Incentives (RREDI) Division, the incumbent independently performs the varied, complex, technical, and analytical work at the full journeyperson level, on the topics of building decarbonization programs, policies, and strategies. The Equitable Building Decarbonization Branch has primary responsibility of building decarbonization programs and strategies. The incumbent represents the division and the California Energy Commission (CEC) before various tribal, state, federal, and local energy agencies and regional, national, professional, and governmental bodies which significantly influence the state’s energy policies with respect to building decarbonization activities. The incumbent will serve as a knowledgeable resource on policy, technology, market, and strategic issues, specifically in tribal communities, as directed; and plays a primary role in coordination and collaboration with other state, federal, and local agencies, tribal governments, as well as other interested stakeholders and the public.

Working Conditions

The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location. Occasional travel may be required as part of tasks and as such will be reimbursed appropriately. Travel may also be required to attend in person meetings or events at CEC headquarters in Sacramento, which will be at your personal expense.

Teleworking is only available for employees who reside in California. You must be located in California and provide your in-state address prior to your start date.

Department Information

The CEC was established by the Legislature in 1974 to address energy challenges facing the state. Today, the CEC is the state's primary energy policy and planning agency and is leading the state to a 100% clean energy future. Serving all Californians, the CEC embodies diversity, equity, and inclusion, and has taken an active and meaningful role in creating an environment that enables each employee to thrive. The CEC operates under the umbrella of the California Natural Resources Agency and shares offices with the agency in a LEED Platinum Certified Building in downtown Sacramento.

The California Energy Commission seeks an Electric Generation System Specialist I in the Reliability, Renewable Energy & Decarbonization Incentives Division /Equitable Building Decarbonization Branch/ Rebates and Incentives Unit.
