Position Description:
California Northstate University College of Medicine (CNUCOM) is seeking a committed physician to serve as M4 Electives and Sub-Internships Co-Director. This is a renewable non-tenure position in the Academic Professor Series.
CNUCOM has developed an innovative medical education program with vertical and horizontal integration. The Fourth Year (M4) Electives and Sub-Internships Co-Director will be joining a team of highly motivated faculty responsible for the development, design, and implementation of all components of the medical education program using Course Learning Objectives and College of Medicine adopted Program Learning Objectives. Clerkship coordinators are available to provide operational support. To ensure faculty success, professional development opportunities are available in pedagogy through the Institute of Teaching and Learning.
The M4 Co-Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the curriculum and clinical experiences for fourth-year medical students. This role involves close collaboration with faculty, clinical departments, and administrative staff to ensure that the curriculum meets educational objectives and accreditation standards while preparing students for residency.
The M4 Co-Director is also expected to recruit new preceptors and sites for M4 Sub-Internships and electives, and to work with the Ranking and Promotions Committee to facilitate appointment as community faculty members at CNUCOM and to coordinate affiliation agreements with their health institutions. The M4 Co-Director is also expected to assist with onboarding the new preceptors.

Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development and Oversight:
- Design and update the fourth-year curriculum and syllabi, including core Sub-Internship and elective rotations, to ensure they aligns with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
- Develop and implement innovative teaching methods, assessments, and evaluations to enhance student learning and clinical skills.
- Ensure the curriculum is responsive to the evolving needs of the medical field and integrates new technologies and practices.
- Course and Rotation Management:
- Oversee the scheduling, coordination, and evaluation of clinical rotations, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive educational experience.
- Collaborate with clinical faculty to develop rotation-specific objectives, evaluation tools, and feedback mechanisms.
- Address any issues related to rotation assignments, student performance, and faculty involvement.
- Student Support and Mentorship:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to fourth-year medical students, offering advice on M4 course planning and on residency applications, career planning, and professional development.
- Monitor student progress through regular evaluations and provide support for students facing academic or personal challenges.
- Offer advice and support, including possible disciplinary actions for students who may not be adhering to CNUCOM academic and professional standard
- Faculty Collaboration and Development:
- Work closely with faculty to ensure high-quality teaching and mentoring during clinical rotations.
- Facilitate faculty development programs to enhance teaching skills, evaluation methods, and clinical supervision.
- Serve as a liaison between faculty, students, and administration to address any concerns or challenges.
- Administrative Duties:
- Coordinate with the chair of clinical education and the administrative team to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
- Participate in committees related to curriculum development, student affairs, and faculty evaluation.
- Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:
- Regularly assess the effectiveness of the fourth-year curriculum and clinical experiences through student feedback, performance data, and outcome measures.
- Implement changes based on feedback and best practices to continually improve the educational experience.
- Stay informed of trends in medical education and incorporate relevant advancements into the curriculum.
- Additional Responsibilities:
o Collate student and faculty research activities, publications, grants, and other research activities relevant to demonstrate student & faculty research of the accreditation standards.
o Work with Dean and accreditation team in all aspects of functions and activities, including but not limited to gathering & presenting data relevant to demonstration of compliance with accreditation standards.
o May participate in scholarship activities
- Participate in faculty development programs
- Provide clinical service (negotiable)
Qualifications:
· Terminal degree (MD, MD/PhD, DO).
· Ability to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary environment
Preferences:
· Applicants with teaching and/or clinical experience and/or medical student clerkship experience in any of the medical specialties
· Applicants with experience in teaching in an integrated curriculum

Highlights:
California Northstate University College of Medicine (CNUCOM) is an allopathic medical education program approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The curriculum uses a horizontally- and vertically-integrated interdisciplinary clinical presentation approach. Clinical presentations (patients’ chief complaints) are the framework within which basic and clinical science knowledge will be built. Integrated curriculum introduces the students to basic and clinical sciences for the first two years. In the third and fourth years, a community-based, clinical training model is being adopted.
