Ultrasound Technologist – Travelers Accepted

Job Title: Corbin-Ultrasound Tech
Department: BHCOR-Ultrasound
Location: Corbin, Kentucky
Schedule: 36 hours/week | 12-hour shifts | 3 days/week

Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist provides diagnostic imaging services by applying sonic energy to produce high-quality ultrasound images for interpretation by a Radiologist or licensed independent practitioner. The technologist performs sonography procedures, computer processing, image archiving, patient care, and related duties while exercising professional judgment and maintaining high standards of medical ethics and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

Perform ultrasound examinations according to department protocols and established standards.
Produce high-quality diagnostic images for Radiologist review and interpretation.
Verify patient identity, orders, medical history, and relevant clinical information before examinations.
Continuously monitor patients throughout procedures and provide appropriate care and support.
Assist Radiologists and authorized providers with examinations and invasive procedures as needed.
Perform and document required time-out procedures for invasive procedures.
Provide initial interpretation of exams in accordance with department protocols.
Prepare image copies and document image releases in the electronic health record (EHR).
Verify images are properly archived to PACS and report any issues to the PACS administrator.
Send images to tele-radiology services after hours as instructed.
Participate in ultrasound peer review activities with the Ultrasound Coordinator.
Assist with ACR accreditation activities as requested.
Follow department protocols, hospital policies, infection-control procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
Coordinate patient examinations with nursing units and patient transport services.
Document patient-care incidents, medications administered, and other required information in the EHR.
Monitor ultrasound supplies and linens; order and restock materials as needed.
Report equipment malfunctions and environmental safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
Coordinate equipment maintenance with vendors and the Ultrasound Coordinator.
Assist with equipment and software selection and EHR-related changes or needs.
Help manage department resources, equipment, supplies, and budget-related needs.
Proactively support daily patient flow and staff scheduling.
Maintain a professional, cooperative, and respectful working relationship with patients, coworkers, physicians, and other departments.
Provide supervision and instruction to ultrasound students during clinical rotations.
Assist with training new employees on equipment functionality, exam protocols, and procedure modifications.
Maintain required safety standards, participate in safety and emergency preparedness programs, fire drills, and disaster drills.
Attend required training, development classes, meetings, and safety programs.
Adhere to hospital dress code and use appropriate safety equipment.

Required Qualifications

Less than 1 year of professional experience accepted.
Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Sonography program.
BLS certification required.
Must hold one of the following:
ARDMS – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Abdomen, or
ARDMS – Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).
Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with physicians, clinical staff, peers, and leadership.
Strong computer skills and ability to collect, analyze, and utilize computerized data.
Ability to work independently, demonstrate sound clinical judgment, and adapt to changes in healthcare.
Dependable, self-motivated, professional, honest, and team-oriented.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule when required.

Preferred Qualifications

1–2 years of experience in Special Imaging/Ultrasound.

Work Schedule

Pay: $58.00 - $62.00 per hour
