Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Kitchen Manager leads Brillante's food service program, ensuring that nutritious, appealing, and developmentally appropriate meals and snacks are provided to children in accordance with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements, New Mexico child care licensing regulations, and local environmental health standards. The Kitchen Manager oversees all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu planning, food procurement, inventory management, meal preparation, food safety, regulatory compliance, recordkeeping, budgeting, and staff supervision.

Working closely with Brillante leadership, families, and teaching teams, the Kitchen Manager helps create positive food experiences that support children's health, learning, and well-being. As a member of the Brillante community, the Kitchen Manager actively participates in the daily life of the program, building positive relationships with children, families, and staff while helping cultivate a culture of care, belonging, and healthy living.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Kitchen Manager is responsible for:

1. Leading the planning, preparation, and service of nutritious meals and snacks for approximately 104 children in accordance with CACFP guidelines, licensing requirements, and Brillante's educational philosophy;

2. Supervising, scheduling, training, and supporting kitchen staff to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality food service operations;

3. Developing menus that meet CACFP meal pattern requirements, nutritional standards, allergy and dietary considerations, budgetary goals, cultural responsiveness objectives, and children's developmental needs;

4. Managing food purchasing, vendor relationships, inventory systems, receiving procedures, and supply ordering to maintain adequate inventory and control costs;

5. Overseeing CACFP participation requirements, including meal counts, production records, enrollment documentation, reimbursement records, monitoring activities, and other required paperwork with the support of office staff;

6. Maintaining kitchen operations in compliance with City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department requirements, New Mexico child care licensing regulations, food safety standards, and organizational policies;

7. Maintaining accurate records related to food production, inventory, compliance monitoring, inspections, safety procedures, staff training, budget, and regulatory requirements;

8. Supporting licensing visits, CACFP reviews, environmental health inspections, audits, and other compliance-related activities;

9. Collaborating with teaching teams to support family-style dining practices, nutrition education, cooking experiences, gardening initiatives, and other food-related learning opportunities when appropriate;

10. Building positive relationships with children by participating in the daily life of the school, interacting respectfully and warmly during meal service and school activities, and helping create positive experiences around food and community; and

11. Contributing to a safe, welcoming, and collaborative organizational culture that reflects Brillante's mission, values, and commitment to children and families.

Skills & Qualifications

● Experience managing food service operations in a child care center, school, adult care facility, healthcare setting, institutional kitchen, or similar environment;

● Experience administering CACFP strongly preferred;

● Knowledge of food safety regulations, sanitation requirements, environmental health standards, child care licensing requirements related to food service, and regulatory compliance practices;

● Strong communication, organizational, recordkeeping, and administrative skills with attention to detail;

● Experience managing budgets, purchasing systems, inventory controls, and vendor relationships;

● Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, accessibility, and culturally responsive practice;

● Enjoys working around young children and contributing to a positive school culture;

● Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; and

● Comfortable using Google Workspace, spreadsheets, inventory systems, food service software, and electronic recordkeeping systems.

Work Requirements & Conditions of Employment

● Background clearance as required by Explora and ECECD;

● Must complete and maintain all ongoing licensing- and CACFP-required professional development requirements throughout employment;

● Must be able to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively;

● Must be able to also work in classroom and office environments;

● Must be able to maintain a regular schedule conducive to meal preparation for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack;

● Requires standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions throughout the workday;

● Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds; and

● Must maintain a current and valid driver's license if position duties require travel on behalf of Explora.

Pay: $47,000.00 per year
