Spotsylvania County Public schools is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to perform advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of HVAC systems and related equipment throughout School Division facilities. Daily functions may include diagnosing and repairing HVAC systems, performing scheduled preventive maintenance, responding to service requests, and ordering and purchasing HVAC parts, equipment, and maintenance materials. This position is ideal for those who have many years of expierence in their respective trade and are working toward their Master license as part of their career growth!
Essential Job Functions:

Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in various types of HVAC equipment, systems, and related components throughout School Division facilities.

Installs new HVAC equipment, systems, and related components as required.
Relocates, modifies, expands, and upgrades existing HVAC equipment and systems as required.
Repairs, replaces, and/or calibrates controls, thermostats, sensors, switches, fuses, relays, and electrical wiring associated with HVAC systems. -
Fabricates, assembles, and installs electrical wiring, controls, ductwork, piping, and related HVAC components according to specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codes.

Wires and connects motors, compressors, pumps, temperature controls, humidity controls, and other HVAC components according to wiring schematics and manufacturer specifications.

Maintains required records related to refrigerant use, recovery, and dispensing in accordance with federal regulations.

Performs scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and cleaning of HVAC equipment and systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation.

Education and Experience:
Required
-
High School Diploma or GED
-
Journeyman Certification in the HVAC trade
-
Continued education, certification or additional licensure -OR- three (3) years of experience in the HVAC trade
Preferred
-
Current (valid, non-expired) Driver’s License
-
Seven (7) years of experience working in HVAC as a maintenance technician, ideally within a public school system or other public institution or setting
Special Requirements:

The employee must pass a yearly physical and participate fully in the drug/alcohol screening program.

This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies.

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 12-Month (243 Day), full-time position. The work schedule for this position is 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually.
