Banquet Captain

Position Summary:
The Banquet Captain directly supervises catered events. This includes the planning, setup, execution, and tear down of all events. The Banquet Captain stays in contact with the host and back of the house throughout the event to ensure the highest guest satisfaction possible. All duties are to be performed in accordance with Michigan State laws and regulations, as well as Friendship Circle policies, practices, and procedures.
Qualifications:
● Three years’ experience as a server in a banquet facility.
● Must be able to communicate effectively in English: both orally and in writing.
● Excellent hospitality skills and attention to detail.
● Knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette.
● Ability to work well with people in a team environment.
● Ability to lead and direct in a positive effective manner.
● Ability to make quick and accurate decisions.
● Ability to work with little or no supervision.
● Ability to lift & carry.
● Ability to perform various activities such as walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, and squatting.
● Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills, time management & multitasking ability.
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under short time constraints with established deadlines.
● Ability to work well under pressure and remain calm.
● Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
● Willingness to learn and adhere to specific regulations of kosher laws.
Job Description Detail:
● Meet and greet host and guests in a warm and friendly manner.
● Survey room for 100% readiness. Light bulbs out, spots on walls, food stains, etc.
● Assist with seating arrangements, coats, and or gifts.
● Manage and assist other event vendors and supervise rental equipment.
● Inspect and prepare guest entrance/exit areas with signage, cleanliness & safety.
● Promote and maintain the highest level of customer service to host and guests.
● Ability to tend to the requests, concerns & complaints of the host and guests.
● Coordinate food service timing, setup, and required equipment between FOH & BOH before the start of the event.
● Assist the banquet team with decorative accents to enhance food stations.
● Review BEO and floorplan with the catering manager before the event.
● Attend a BEO meeting if required.
● Create and print setup assignments delegating job duties to banquet servers for each event, including:
o Setup
o Sidework
o Job duties during event
o Teardown/cleanup
● Conduct staff lineup prior to the start of the event to review:
o Confirm all staff clock in
o Staff uniforms (shirt, tie, pants, shoes, lighter, matches, pen, wine key)
o Review assignments
o Food & beverage on Beo (any questions relating to those items)
o Allergies
o Breaks
o Review any last-minute changes or substitutions
o Closing/end of event
● Assists bartenders with validating ID and alcoholic consumption for guest safety.
● Ensure food and beverage items are set and ready 15 minutes prior to guest arrival.
● Check off ALL items on Beo as food & beverage stations are set.
● Monitors food service to ensure:
o No contamination with guest food allergies.
o Foods are served at appropriate temperatures.
● Ensure banquet servers adhere to the standard uniform requirements and enforce standard hygiene and grooming.
● Maintain the cleanliness of the event spaces.
● Alert management team of broken, missing, or necessary equipment.
● Work as a bartender or banquet server when necessary.
● Guide and direct staff to protect and maintain correct cleaning and storage of all food and beverage equipment.
● Maintain the organization and cleanliness of catering equipment rooms while monitoring inventory of supplies and equipment.
● Adhere to each venues closing procedures.
● Responsible for packing FOH equipment for off-site events and putting equipment away, clean and organized, after off-site events.
● Log all staff hours for the event. Submit hours to the Sales Manager.
● Provide any pertinent feedback on the event to the Sales Manager and Chef.
● Notify the Sales Manager of any security issues, unusual events, circumstances, missing items, alleged theft, accident, or injury.
● The Banquet Captain is a representation of the Sales Team, the venue, the Friendship Circle, and the kosher community.
Pay: $25.00 per hour
