Technical Project Manager – North Carolina (Data Center EPC Projects)

POSITION SUMMARY
DEC is seeking a highly technical Technical Project Manager to support the successful delivery of large-scale data center construction projects in North Carolina.
This role is ideal for an experienced MEP professional who combines strong technical knowledge with project execution skills. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, be able to interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), review design documents, coordinate technical activities across multiple disciplines, and develop and maintain detailed project schedules.
Working closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Commissioning, Procurement, Construction, and subcontractors, the Technical Project Manager will ensure technical requirements are incorporated into project planning while supporting successful execution from design through commissioning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Project Management
- Manage technical aspects of assigned data center projects from engineering through commissioning.
- Review and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings.
- Review and understand Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), equipment layouts, and system interfaces.
- Coordinate technical reviews with engineering, commissioning, procurement, and construction teams.
- Identify design issues, constructability concerns, and technical risks before execution.
Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Build construction logic, sequencing, and milestone schedules for MEP installation and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate schedule updates with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and project controls.
- Identify schedule risks and develop mitigation and recovery plans when required.
MEP Coordination
- Coordinate electrical, mechanical, plumbing, controls, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure design packages, RFIs, submittals, procurement, and field activities remain aligned.
- Support equipment installation planning, energization planning, and system turnover activities.
- Coordinate interface points between multiple trades and subcontractors.
Project Execution
- Support field teams with technical guidance throughout construction.
- Monitor project progress and identify technical or scheduling issues impacting execution.
- Participate in coordination meetings with clients, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Assist with change management, technical evaluations, and project documentation.
Commissioning Support
- Coordinate commissioning schedules with construction activities.
- Support pre-functional and functional testing activities.
- Assist with turnover documentation and project closeout.
- Ensure systems are completed in accordance with project specifications and commissioning requirements.
Risk Management
- Identify technical, procurement, and construction risks.
- Track material deliveries, engineering releases, permits, and long-lead equipment.
- Develop action plans to maintain project schedule and execution readiness.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Project Controls, and Commissioning teams.
- Promote collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support lessons learned and continuous process improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
- 5–10 years of experience managing technical aspects of industrial, mission-critical, or EPC construction projects.
- Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large industrial electrical projects is strongly preferred.
- Strong background in MEP systems (Electrical preferred).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- Electrical schematics
- Mechanical drawings
- P&IDs (preferred)
- Construction drawings and specifications
- Experience developing and managing project schedules using Primavera P6 (preferred) or Microsoft Project.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and commissioning activities.
- Knowledge of medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.
- Experience coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP certification.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- Experience with mission-critical commissioning.
- Familiarity with BIM/Navisworks is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites throughout North Carolina.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
