Position Summary

The Digital Services Program at WHS is currently recruiting for two positions. The Digital Imaging Specialist will have responsibilities that include photographing and imaging a wide range of collection materials in compliance with professional standards, creating and quality-controlling metadata, preparing files for long-term preservation and access, and supporting online and educational use of digital assets.

The Digital Imaging Coordinator oversees imaging in the Digital Lab, which includes overhead cameras, flatbed scanners (large-format, standard, and negative), microfilm scanners, DSLR cameras, sheet feed scanners, book scanners, and a 3D scanner to digitize the Society’s unique collection materials. The Digital Imaging Coordinator will consistently apply established digitization, metadata, and technical guidelines to create high-quality digital assets for long-term preservation and use. The Digital Imaging Coordinator will primarily oversee the care and use of digital imaging equipment and ensure the quality of images produced by Digital Lab staff is in accordance with FAGDI standards. This position oversees digitization quality assurance and provides technical support and training to staff for software and equipment specific to the digital lab. This role serves as the primary liaison between program areas, IT, and external vendors for digitization processes.

Salary Information

The salary will be between $30.15 - $35.00 per hour plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current or former state employees may vary according to the applicable pay provisions found in the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan. These positions are in pay schedule 07, range 34. The classification for both positions is IS Business Automation Senior. A 12-month probationary period will be required.

Qualifications

Please make sure to describe the following qualifications within your resume and/or letter of qualifications in order to be considered for this position.

Minimally qualified candidate will have experience in the following:

Experience using professional-level digitization equipment in a production-level environment
Experience working with special and/or archival collections, including experience handling fragile materials
Demonstrable understanding of still image capture, including knowledge of digitization standards and best practices for digitization of a variety of analog mediums
Experience working with Qualified Dublin Core Metadata Standards and digital asset management systems
Experience with maintaining file management standards, including folder structures, naming conventions, and version-controlled practices
Demonstrated ability to identify quality issues with digitized and born-digital image files

In addition to minimum qualifications, a well-qualified candidate will additionally have experience in three of the following areas:

Working with Golden Thread software, and/or Capture One software
Experience in maintaining a digitization lab, its equipment, and coordinating with vendors
Experience in the use of digital imaging standards, including FADGI, ISO 19264, and color management workflows
Participating in hiring, training, and mentoring students and/or volunteers
Experience in audiovisual digitization
