Position Summary:
Provides spiritual direction and program facilitation on behalf of the Franciscan Spiritual Center – East (FSC) cultivating its culture of “welcoming all as sister and brother.” Integrates our Franciscan mission values and vision with programming and direction. Presents an image of professionalism, spiritual maturity, and hospitable presence to the FSC’s community of retreatants and sisters. The Spiritual Direction Program Manager will build and oversee the renewed spiritual direction program of the Franciscan Spiritual Center – East while serving as a spiritual director for individuals and groups and facilitating some FSC East programs.
Essential Functions:
Spiritual Direction Program Management
· Create a program to offer spiritual direction services that invites spiritual directors with established or growing practices to join a team of spiritual directors related to the Franciscan Spiritual Center – East.
· Maintain a calendar of spiritual direction sessions and room assignments. Track payment by directees for sessions. Follow up with directees and directors if there is no payment one week post-session.
· Manage the team of spiritual directors, including recruitment, administration, development, and oversight (e.g., ensuring paperwork is complete, agreements are being followed, SDI standards are maintained, supervision is achieved, collegiality and consultation opportunities exist for director development and support).
Training Services
· Collaborate with the Franciscan Spiritual Center – West on expanding the reach of the Spiritual Direction Training Program (SDTP) and/or substantively facilitate aspects of the SDTP as co-convener, teacher, mentor, supervisor in ongoing training and continuing education programs.
· Collaborate with the Franciscan Spiritual Center – West on developing curriculum and programing around Continuing Education for spiritual directors and others.
Spiritual Direction
· Provide individual and/or group spiritual direction, companioning directees in deepening their relationship with the Divine and welcoming them into the sacred space of their own lives.
· Act as spiritual director, offering contemplative presence and compassionate listening, assisting directees in discerning the Divine’s presence and activity in their experiences.
· Support directees in exploring observation, reflection, and prayer practices, navigating life transitions, and experiencing ongoing spiritual growth.
· Collaborate with other spiritual directors to establish, maintain, and expand the FSC directee and patron base.
· Participate in supervision, consultation, and continuing education.
· Engage in own ongoing personal spiritual direction and development.
· Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards for spiritual direction (including Spiritual Directors International (SDI) Guidelines for Ethical Conduct as a minimum standard).
Program Development & Management
· Design, plan, and facilitate FSC programs and retreats for staff and patrons.
· Support and contribute to FSC programs and retreats.
· Bring an FSC lens to organization-wide strategy and program planning and support.
· Participate in staff meetings and relevant events.
· Participate in and carry out FSC protocols with respect to budgeting, planning, advertising, fund raising, and managing programs.
Required Qualifications:
· An understanding of and deep curiosity around spiritual direction and formation principles.
· An understanding of and deep curiosity around Franciscan spirituality and teaching.
· Demonstrated training and experience in spiritual direction.
· Demonstrated training and experience in supervision of spiritual directors.
· Experience in receiving regular spiritual direction.
· Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
· Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that respects diverse spiritual paths.
· Ability to work under short-term and long-view deadlines.
· Presents an image of professionalism, spiritual maturity, and hospitable presence.
· Participates in opportunities for reflection, contemplation, and continuing education.
· Respects each person on staff, outside presenters, patrons, guests, donors. Demonstrates listening skills. Demonstrates sensitivity to different learning styles, stages of faith development, and identifications of diverse persons.
· Complies with SOSF and FSC employee and operational requirements – policies, processes and norms.
· Manages conflict appropriately.
· Supports and promotes the mission, vision and values of the SoSF and sponsorship of the FSC. Is knowledgeable and respectful of the Catholic tradition.
· Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested in direct reporting relationship.
Physical Requirements:
· Local travel.

· Setting up rooms, tables, and chairs.
· Computer work (including Outlook, Excel, Quickbooks, Zoom, Retreat Guru, and Mighty Networks learning platform).
