Shelter Kitchen Manager

Reports To: Executive Director

Status: Full-Time (or Part-Time, as applicable)

Position Summary

The Kitchen Manager oversees all aspects of the shelter's food service program, ensuring that nutritious, appealing, and safe evening meals are prepared and served daily for approximately 30 residents. This position is responsible for meal planning, purchasing, inventory control, food safety, volunteer coordination, and maintaining a clean, welcoming kitchen that reflects the mission and values of the organization.

Essential Duties

Plan and prepare nutritious dinner meals for approximately 30 residents each day.
Transport food to second location in Manchester
Purchase food and kitchen supplies while maintaining the approved budget.
Develop weekly and monthly menus.
Maintain food inventory and proper storage.
Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations.
Maintain required temperature logs and kitchen records.
Supervise and train kitchen volunteers as needed.
Coordinate food donations and rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out).
Keep the kitchen, pantry, walk-in cooler, freezer, and dining area clean and organized.
Pick up food from Food Pantry
Complete approximately two hours of administrative work weekly, including:
Food ordering
Inventory reports
Menu planning
Invoice processing
Health and safety documentation
Work cooperatively with shelter staff to meet residents' dietary needs whenever possible.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.
Experience preparing meals for groups of 25 or more.
Current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
Knowledge of food safety regulations.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Compassion and the ability to work respectfully with individuals experiencing homelessness, recovery, or other life challenges.
Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

Previous nonprofit, shelter, church, or institutional kitchen experience.
Experience managing volunteers.
Budgeting and inventory management experience.

Physical Requirements

Standing for extended periods.
Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying.
Ability to work in hot kitchen environments.

Pay: $25.00 - $29.00 per hour
