re:done is looking for a talented Residential Remodeling Designer to join our team. We are a residential remodeling contractor focused on quality craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and an excellent client experience.
This is a construction-oriented design position. Our designers don't simply select finishes or create pretty spaces—they help take projects from the initial concept through design, budgeting, construction documentation, and ultimately construction.
The right person will be comfortable talking with homeowners, developing creative design solutions, creating construction drawings, working with an estimator on budgets, and communicating design intent to the people who build our projects.
Responsibilities
Design & Documentation
- Develop design concepts based on client goals, existing conditions, and project budgets.
- Create space plans, layouts, elevations, details, schedules, and construction drawings.
- Develop finish palettes and material selections.
- Translate written scopes of work into clear graphical design documentation.
- Research products, materials, construction methods, and current design trends.
- Develop practical solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, durability, constructability, and cost.
Estimating & Preconstruction
- Work with the estimator to develop project budgets and material allowances.
- Write and contribute to project estimates.
- Research materials and pricing.
- Assist with bid packages and subcontractor scopes.
- Load and maintain project budgets within the company's project management system.
- Identify design decisions that affect project cost, schedule, or constructability.
Client Communication
- Meet with clients to understand their goals, preferences, and expectations.
- Present design concepts and guide clients through selections and decisions.
- Adapt the design process to each client's individual needs and communication style.
- Clearly communicate project information, options, and budget implications.
- Help clients make informed decisions without overwhelming them.
Construction Coordination
- Communicate design intent to project managers, supervisors, carpenters, and subcontractors.
- Transition completed designs into the construction phase.
- Communicate drawings, selections, and client decisions to the construction team.
- Visit projects during construction to help ensure the work reflects the approved design.
- Identify and help resolve design issues that arise in the field.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of residential construction methods and materials.
- The ability to create and interpret construction drawings.
- Strong space-planning and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organization.
- The ability to understand and work within project budgets.
- Familiarity with current residential building codes and the ability to research applicable requirements.
- Knowledge of residential finishes, fixtures, and construction products.
- Proficiency with relevant design/drafting software.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
Knowledge of ADA requirements and universal design principles is a plus.
Experience in residential remodeling, architecture, interior architecture, interior design, construction, or a related field is preferred. Experience with historic homes and renovation of older structures is particularly valuable.
Who You'll Work With
The Designer works closely with clients, sales, estimating, and project management. You'll be responsible for understanding the client's vision and helping translate it into a project that can actually be built within the established budget.
At re:done, designers are part of the construction process. You'll work alongside the people who estimate and build our projects, giving you the opportunity to see your designs become reality and to continually improve your understanding of construction.
We also work on projects that often require creative problem solving—from historic homes and unique existing conditions to custom details and innovative construction methods. We value people who are curious, resourceful, detail-oriented, and willing to find answers when they don't know them.
If you're looking for a design position where you can be involved in the entire process—from the first client conversation through design, budgeting, documentation, and construction—we'd like to hear from you.
