Full Job Description

We are seeking a qualified Pre-Op/PACU Nurse to work Monday - Thursday to administer diligent care to outpatients via monitoring, assessment, intervention, and continuous reassessment. The Pre-Op/PACU Nurse will provide care for patients preparing for the operating room and post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia, including general, regional, and local. Most procedures only require local and twilight sedation.

The main duties of this position are:

Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient while supporting the patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice
Insert IVs, administer pre-operative medications, thoroughly assess patient health and suitability on day of surgery
Assists in inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels
Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient
Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered
Complete all required documentation and deliver post-operative instructions
Prepare for and perform life-saving emergency responses if/when needed

Success in this position will require . . .

Excellent IV skills
General clinical competency in acute patient care
Ability to gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative and post-operative care
Previous ambulatory surgery experience, preferred
Current Maryland RN license
Ophthalmology experience is a plus
BLS and ACLS
