Wood and Metal Finisher / Shop Technician
Job Summary
We are hiring a dependable Wood and Metal Finisher to prepare, paint, stain, and finish custom cabinets, millwork, and fabricated metal components.
This position is open to both experienced finishers and entry-level applicants who are willing to learn. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in quality work, and can work safely and efficiently in a combined woodworking and metal fabrication shop.
Responsibilities
- Sand, clean, mask, and prepare wood and metal surfaces for finishing
- Fill nail holes, seams, dents, scratches, and surface imperfections
- Apply paint, primer, stain, clear coat, lacquer, polyurethane, and other finishes
- Use spray guns, brushes, rollers, and hand-finishing tools
- Mix and match stains, paints, and coatings as directed
- Prepare metal surfaces by sanding, grinding, cleaning, and degreasing
- Inspect finished work for proper color, coverage, texture, and overall quality
- Perform touch-ups and correct finish defects as needed
- Protect completed pieces for storage, delivery, and installation
- Clean and maintain spray equipment, tools, and finishing areas
- Follow shop safety procedures and properly handle finishing chemicals
- Assist with general shop work, assembly, loading, and material handling when needed
Qualifications
- Previous painting, staining, cabinetry, automotive painting, powder coating, or industrial finishing experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to follow instructions and finish samples accurately
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working with wood, steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and other materials
- Ability to use sanders, grinders, spray equipment, and basic hand tools
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Dependable attendance and reliable transportation
- Willingness to learn new finishing techniques and processes
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and work around large fabricated pieces
- Ability to lift and carry approximately 50 pounds
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection
Experience Levels
We are open to applicants at different experience levels:
- Entry-Level: Training may be provided for candidates with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
- Experienced Finisher: Candidates should be able to independently prepare surfaces, operate spray equipment, apply professional finishes, and complete touch-ups.
Compensation will be based on experience and demonstrated skill.
