Full Job Description

Position Summary:

The Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting patients to and from medical appointments, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and residential locations. This position requires excellent customer service skills, a clean driving record, and the ability to assist passengers with varying levels of mobility while maintaining professionalism and empathy.

Key Responsibilities:

Safely operate a company-provided NEMT vehicle in accordance with Texas traffic laws and company policies.
Pick up and drop off passengers at scheduled times, ensuring on-time service.
Assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle, including the use of wheelchairs, walkers, and stretchers when required.
Properly secure wheelchairs, seat belts, and other mobility aids before transport.
Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and passenger manifests.
Communicate effectively with dispatchers and passengers regarding pickup/drop-off times and route updates.
Inspect the vehicle daily for cleanliness, mechanical soundness, and proper safety equipment.
Report any accidents, incidents, or maintenance needs promptly to the supervisor.
Provide courteous, compassionate, and respectful service to passengers, many of whom may be elderly or disabled.
Follow HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications:

Minimum Age: 21 years old
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
License: Valid Texas driver’s license (Class C or higher)
Driving Record: Clean driving record with no major violations or suspensions in the last 3 years
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of professional driving experience (preferred)
Experience in healthcare transportation, NEMT, paratransit, or similar role (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50- 150 lbs
Comfortable assisting passengers with mobility devices
Able to sit for long periods and perform repetitive vehicle entry/exit movements
Certifications (preferred or may be required):
CPR and First Aid Certification
Defensive Driving Certification
PASS (Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity) Certification
DOT Medical Card (if operating vehicles over a certain weight or as required by company)

Skills & Competencies:

Strong customer service and communication skills
Punctual and dependable with excellent time management
Knowledge of the Dallas–Fort Worth area and major routes
Ability to remain calm and patient under pressure
Basic knowledge of vehicle safety and maintenance
Professional appearance and demeanor

Schedule:

Flexible shifts (morning, afternoon, and weekend availability may be required)
Overtime may be available depending on company needs

Compensation & Benefits:

Pay: $15-$18 per hour (based on experience and certifications)

Work Environment:

Primarily field-based, driving within the North Dallas area
