POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the accurate preparation of various types of cost estimates using bid documents, specifications and design drawings. Estimates include costs for all labor, materials, freight and buyout items required by the customer. The role is located in Schofield, WI and can require notable travel at times, based on customer need and business conditions.

· Adaptive to Changes and Problem Solving – Change is normal in most of our jobs, so being able to pivot on the fly and problem solve as needed will be required.

· Mathematics and Analytical Skills – This role requires strong math skills and a natural ability to add, subtract, and multiply costs. As a result, this person must have the abilities and skill to perform those tasks accurately and efficiently.

· Detail Oriented – This person must be naturally attentive to detail, perform quality work, and notice small discrepancies or errors in others work.

· Productive – This person must have the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

· Communication – This person will work with different departments, suppliers, contractors, etc. and will need to be able to clearly communicate in person, over the phone, in emails, or through video conference calls (Teams/Zoom).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Review bidding documents and design drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.

· Prepare lump sum, unit price and budgetary estimates by compiling all costs associated the required scope of work.

· Quantify all labor requirements for each estimate.

· Prepare material lists and solicit pricing from qualified vendors according to project schedule requirements.

· Communicate with other departments to identify potential risks or cost saving measures.

· Determines inexplicit areas to qualify bids.

· Review pricing from vendors/subcontractors to ensure accuracy with the assigned scope of work.

· Assist the sales team in the preparation of the proposal.

· Establish fabrication and delivery schedules according to project requirements.

· Maintain files of working documents as back-up for the estimate, including current information on prices from vendors and subcontractors.

· Prepares documents and information for the project management team on sold projects.

· Assists Project Management and/or Sales staff with pricing issues on existing contracts.

· Evaluate and document cost history on awarded projects.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Must be able to work successfully independently and as part of a team.

· Must be able and willing to work required hours to meet deadlines.

· Must be able to work on multiple projects concurrently.

· Some occasional travel may be required.

SKILLS, ABILITIES & EXPERIENCE:

· Ability to read and interpret technical and legal documents as well as construction and shop drawings.

· Exceptional mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

· Capability to identify cost-saving methods to increase profitability.

· Must have experience with Microsoft software applications with a strong emphasis placed on Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.

· Working use of Tekla EPM or comparable estimating software is required, along with general proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Navisworks, Revit, Tekla, Trimble Connect, etc.

· Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering preferred, but not required.

· Structural steel detailing, vocational training, or other secondary education program is preferred, but not required.

· Minimum 4 years combination of training and experience in working with structural steel drawings is required.
