Full Job Description

This position works within the Community Impact (Grants) Department to create and implement innovative programs to create a stronger nonprofit sector in Broward County. The Director leads the Broward Center for Nonprofit Excellence (Nonprofit Center) as a comprehensive resource for information, tools, support, research, and services for Broward County’s nonprofit sector, including providing educational programs, consultation, coaching, technical assistance, web-based/technology resources, publications/reports, and much more all to enhance the capacity of Broward nonprofit organizations.

The Director will maintain current knowledge of issues (local and national) affecting nonprofit organizations and the community to ensure resources are appropriate, relevant, effective, and timely. The Director will represent the Foundation as a thought-leader on nonprofit capacity building, organizational development and philanthropy, positioning the Nonprofit Center as the leading authority.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to: Vice President of Community Impact.

Supervises: Community Impact Coordinator

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Set overall vision, direction, strategy, and priorities as it relates to development and implementation of programs/services to achieve the Foundation’s and The Nonprofit Center’s goals and results in consultation with VP and an advisory committee.

2. Guide the Center's evolution to a broadened philanthropic footprint inclusive of engaging multiple audiences, such as nonprofits, grantees, agency partners, donors, funders, volunteer leaders, and others to inform, educate, and demonstrate the Foundation’s value add.

3. Be proactive in identifying needs of the above audiences and develop innovative strategies and resources that enhance their personal development and leadership and organizational effectiveness.

a. Recruit, hire and supervise program consultants.

b. Create, select, arrange, host and occasionally deliver/facilitate educational programs to meet identified needs.

d. Create a sense of community for nonprofits by helping them forge relationships with each other to impact community issues fostering collaborations.

4. Maintain and develop new partnerships to support the Center’s work and expand reach into various geographic areas in Broward.

5. Generate revenue for the Center through its programs and services to support sustainability.

6. Provide content, facilitation and speakers, and organizational support to Community Impact (CI) Directors as requested in facilitating grantee groups, such as Power Builders.

7. Evaluate (formally and informally) the effectiveness of programs/services; establish outcomes and benchmarks as a basis for enhancing or creating new programs and/or modifying services.

8. Communication

a. Generate updates, progress reports, share photos and stories, and ensure appropriate recognition of supporters of The Center in program related collateral and CFB newsletters, annual reports, website, etc. in coordination with the marketing department.

b. Produce content for Center for annual report, marketing documents, fundraising documents, and community presentations.

c. Grow interest, excitement, and inspire investments in The Nonprofit Center by providing consistent communication to demonstrate the difference it is making on the nonprofits it serves and its impact on the community.

9. Oversee effective, accurate and efficient grants management and data for assigned portfolio and manage related activities.

10. Develop and implement annual work plan and prepare and monitor annual program budget. Manage additional requests outside of plan based on capacity.

11. Advance the Foundation’s organizational goals and handle special assignments as directed by the Vice President of Community Impact.

12. Manage Coordinator of Community Impact and additional full time, part time, and/or contract staff as Center grows.

Position Requirements/Core Competencies

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred
7+ years of high-level related work experience with concentration on organizational leadership/management, training/human resource development, talent development/management, continuing education, program or business development
Ability to create and implement strategies that lead to improved organizational effectiveness and/or community impact; ability to build solid trusted relationships
Demonstrated experience in developing and institutionalizing new program models or business strategies that have resulted in measurable ROI or organizational improvement.
Experience in marketing or sales that resulted in measurable results, new or expanded customers/clients/stakeholders, increased sales/revenue, or other tangible results.
Understanding of adult learning and ability to engage audiences in the learning process, knowledge of curriculum development/ instructional design and implementation
Knowledge of fundraising, board development, and leadership and management competencies for nonprofit organizations
Experience working in a complex organization with colleagues across multiple departments and with a variety of community stakeholders
Experience in working with volunteers and managing committees
