Quality Assurance Manager – Medical Research

Job Summary

The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager in Medical Research is responsible for ensuring the highest levels of compliance, accuracy, and quality in clinical research studies. This role oversees the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality assurance processes to ensure strict adherence to ICH, GCP, FDA regulations, protocol, and company standards. The QA Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop corrective and preventative actions, support audits, and provide ongoing training to research staff to maintain compliance and promote operational excellence.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

· Develops, implements, and manages quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with ICH, GCP, FDA, and company regulations.

· Oversees internal quality audits of clinical research studies and site operations; ensures findings are documented and resolved.

· Monitors and evaluates ongoing research activities for adherence to protocols, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.

· Provides training and guidance to staff on quality assurance procedures, protocol compliance, and regulatory updates.

· Reviews clinical trial documentation, including informed consent forms, CRFs, source documents, and regulatory binders for accuracy and completeness.

· Identifies areas of risk and develops corrective and preventative action (CAPA) plans to mitigate compliance issues.

· Ensures accurate and timely reporting of adverse events, deviations, and quality issues to regulatory bodies as required.

· Collaborates with investigators, sponsors, and research staff to maintain the highest standards of data integrity and patient safety.

· Leads preparation and response efforts for external audits and regulatory inspections.

· Assumes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the integrity and success of clinical research operations.

Education/Experience/Skills

· Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, healthcare, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.

· 3-5 years of experience in clinical research, regulatory affairs, or quality assurance, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

· Thorough knowledge of ICH, GCP, FDA, and other regulatory requirements governing clinical trials.

· Strong leadership and mentorship skills with the ability to develop high-performing teams.

· Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

· Experience conducting and overseeing audits, inspections, and CAPA implementation.

· Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing across all levels of the organization.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic data capture (EDC) systems.

· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.

Working Conditions

· Indoor, office, and clinical research environment.

· May require occasional travel for training, audits, or sponsor/regulatory meetings.

· Essential physical requirements include sitting, typing, standing, and walking.

· Lightly active position with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.

· Flexibility to work extended hours when required to meet deadlines or respond to audits/inspections.
