Cook/Food Service Worker

We have an opening for a Cook/Food Service Worker.
Location: Woodland Terrace at Longmeadow - 13 Longmeadow Dr, Niles, MI 49120
Schedule: 11-7 shift
Requirement: *Prior food service experience is a plus, but not required! Will train the right person!*
Pay for this position is dependent on experience.

Job Summary

The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious, appealing meals that meet the individual dietary needs and preferences of residents, including therapeutic and physician-ordered diets. This role involves menu planning, safe food handling, and maintaining a clean, sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with infection control procedures. The Dietary Cook works closely with the dietary team to ensure high-quality meals are delivered on schedule while promoting resident health, satisfaction, and overall well-being.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Prepare residents’ diets in accordance with diet orders and daily menus.

· Assist the food service supervisor in determining the amount and type of food necessary to prepare the daily menus.

· Prepare, cook, and serve meals according to approved recipes, portion guidelines, and dietary needs.

· Follow posted menus and recipes for food preparation.

· Understand and be able to prepare therapeutic diets.

· Monitor the use of food to eliminate waste and ensure efficient inventory usage.

· Stock and store food in compliance with dietary policies, procedures, and food safety standards.

· Handle and prepare food in a sanitary manner following infection control procedures.

· Prepare food that is palatable and visually appealing.

· Clean as you go to keep the kitchen clean and orderly.

· Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and kitchen surfaces to ensure a safe and sanitary environment. Sanitize work surfaces after food preparation.

· Wash dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchenware from both cooking and meal services using proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures.

· Safely transport pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from workstations, stoves, and refrigerators.

· Serve residents in a friendly, efficient, and respectful manner while following outlined steps of service.

· Respond promptly and courteously to resident questions or concerns, relaying relevant information to the supervisor as needed.

· Ensure compliance with company service, safety, and sanitation standards, including infection control protocols.

· Be responsible for care and proper use of food service equipment.

· Work cooperatively with food service staff and other departments.

· Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.

· Attend in-service training programs for food service employees.

· Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely, and professional manner.

· Follow Residents’ Rights policies at all times and observe all facility policies and procedures.

· Assume responsibility for meeting meal schedules and avoiding unnecessary food waste.

· Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner and assume accountability for all policies outlined in the employee handbook.

· Come to work in neat, clean attire and consistently present a professional appearance.

· Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

· Previous cooking or food service experience in a healthcare, senior living, or hospitality setting preferred.

· Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, infection control, and dietary compliance procedures required.

· Ability to follow recipes, portion guidelines, diet orders, and therapeutic diet restrictions accurately.

· Strong teamwork, communication, and customer service skills.

· Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift/carry up to 40 lbs.
