Full Job Description

Job Description – Land Analyst

Position Overview:

The Land Analyst will support the Company’s land and commercial activities by managing land records, agreements, obligations, ownership information, payments, and related data. This role will serve as a key link between land, commercial, legal, accounting, and operations and will help develop and maintain the systems and processes necessary to effectively manage a growing portfolio of land assets and agreements.

This is more than a traditional administrative role. The ideal candidate will have strong land administration experience, be comfortable interpreting agreements and ownership information, and be capable of independently managing land data, identifying obligations and issues, and improving internal processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Land & Agreement Administration

Maintain accurate records for easements, rights-of-way, surface use agreements, temporary workspace agreements, water agreements, leases, permits, and other land-related agreements.
Review executed agreements and abstract key commercial and operational terms, including:

o Effective and expiration dates

o Renewal and termination provisions

o Payment obligations

o Acreage, mileage, and other compensation terms

o Notice requirements

o Construction or development deadlines

o Assignment provisions

o Operational restrictions and other contractual obligations

Maintain an agreement and obligation database and proactively track upcoming payments, expirations, renewals, notice dates, and other critical milestones.
Coordinate landowner and counterparty payments with Accounting and confirm payments are made in accordance with contractual requirements.

Land Records & Data Management

Organize and maintain land files, executed agreements, title documents, correspondence, plats, surveys, and related records.
Maintain tract, landowner, agreement, project, and ownership information within the Company’s land management system.
Assist with implementing and administering a formal land management system as the Company’s land portfolio grows.
Maintain consistent naming conventions, filing standards, document controls, and land administration procedures.
Help ensure land information is readily accessible to Commercial, Operations, Accounting, Legal, and management.

Title & Ownership Support

Review deeds, ownership reports, tax records, title information, and other public records to identify surface and mineral ownership as needed.
Assist landmen with ownership research, title verification, curative items, and preparation of landowner contact information.
Track ownership changes and update Company records accordingly.
Coordinate with outside landmen, title vendors, surveyors, and other third-party service providers.

Project & Commercial Support

Support land acquisition efforts for pipelines, facilities, disposal wells, water infrastructure, and other Company projects.
Maintain project-level land trackers showing acquisition status, outstanding items, payments, and critical path issues.
Prepare land status reports and summaries for Commercial, Operations, and management.
Assist with preparation of exhibits, ownership schedules, agreement summaries, and due diligence materials for acquisitions and development projects.
Support commercial and corporate development teams with land-related diligence for potential acquisitions and new projects.

Process & Systems Development

Help develop standardized land administration processes, templates, trackers, and reporting.
Identify gaps or inconsistencies in land records and work proactively to resolve them.
Assist in transitioning land information from spreadsheets and individual files into centralized systems.
Develop recurring reports for upcoming obligations, expirations, outstanding agreements, payments, and project status.
Work with GIS personnel and/or mapping tools to ensure agreement and ownership information is properly associated with Company assets and projects.

Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in land administration, land analysis, title, right-of-way, or a related oil and gas or midstream role.
Experience administering easements, ROW agreements, surface agreements, leases, or similar real property agreements.
Ability to read and understand land agreements and identify key contractual obligations.
Working knowledge of title, ownership, legal descriptions, plats, deeds, and public land records.
Strong organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience managing large datasets or agreement trackers.
Experience with land management software strongly preferred.
Familiarity with GIS, Google Earth, KMZ/KML files, or other mapping applications preferred.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with limited supervision.
Strong communication skills and ability to work across Land, Commercial, Legal, Accounting, and Operations.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate is someone who has developed strong technical land administration skills but wants broader responsibility than a traditional Land Administrator role. They should be comfortable digging into agreements and ownership records, building and maintaining systems, and taking ownership of the details required to keep a growing land portfolio organized and compliant.
