Full Job Description

THE POSITION

The Clerical Assistant 2 position with the Department of Human Services offers a chance to support families and community members who rely on the Juniata County Assistance Office. This role allows you to help with important requirements that keep assistance programs running smoothly. You will build confidence in using computer systems while assisting both staff and visitors. It is a meaningful position where your work makes a real difference for others.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports office operations by entering information into state systems and assisting both coworkers and visitors. The role helps maintain organized records, accurate data, and efficient communication within the Juniata County Assistance Office. As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

Document Processing: Verify information, code forms, and help the public complete required paperwork
Mailroom Support: Process incoming and outgoing mail and prepare supply requisitions
Office Equipment: Operate and maintain machines such as printers, fax machines, copiers, and shredders
Public Assistance: Direct calls and visitors, explain program procedures, and distribute applications
Data Entry: Enter applications, updates, and program information into multiple DHS computer systems

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch.
Travel and overtime as needed.
DHS provides excellent benefits, contractual pay increases, paid holidays and leave entitlements, opportunity for advancement and shift selection in addition to a great work environment.
Work Conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mifflintown, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting salary of $36, 831 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Graduation from high school; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Juniata County. If no eligible candidates who live within Juniata County apply for this position candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
