Rudd Vision is a premier ophthalmology and refractive surgery practice dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care and outstanding surgical outcomes. We are seeking an experienced Certified Lead Scrub Technician with Ophthalmology Experience to join our surgical team.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has direct experience assisting with ophthalmic procedures including cataract surgery and refractive surgery.
Position Summary
The Lead Ophthalmic Technician – Surgical Services is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Office-Based Surgery (OBS) suite while assisting physicians with patient care, diagnostic testing, and surgical procedures. This individual will oversee surgical workflow, maintain quality and safety standards, coordinate staff assignments, and help develop clinical protocols and best practices.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who enjoys mentoring others, maintaining high clinical standards, and creating an exceptional experience for both patients and staff.
Required Qualifications
Must Have:
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification or equivalent credential
- Minimum of 2 years of scrub technician experience
- Minimum of 1 year of ophthalmology surgical experience
- Operating room and/or ophthalmic surgical assisting experience including;
- Cataract Surgery
- Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
- LASIK
- EVO ICL
- Knowledge of sterile processing and infection control standards
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience, or demonstrated ability to lead a clinical team
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, instrumentation, sterile technique, and surgical workflow
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and lead in a fast-paced high-volume surgical environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) experience
- Experience with:
- Centurion Vision System
- LENSAR Ally Laser
- NGENUITY Visualization System
- Premium IOL technologies
- Instrument processing and sterilization experience
- Experience with inventory management and surgical supply ordering
Leadership Responsibilities
As the Lead Ophthalmic Technician, you will:
- Lead the daily operations of the Office-Based Surgery (OBS) suite.
- Coordinate and oversee surgical staff assignments and workflow.
- Ensure operating rooms are prepared, stocked, and ready for each surgical day.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, infection prevention, accreditation, and office-based surgery standards.
- Oversee instrument processing, sterilization, and inventory management.
- Implement, and maintain clinical and surgical protocols.
- Train, mentor, and onboard new ophthalmic technicians.
- Conduct competency assessments and provide ongoing coaching.
- Collaborate with physicians and leadership to improve surgical efficiency and patient outcomes.
- Monitor quality assurance initiatives and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Assist with equipment maintenance, vendor coordination, and supply management.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and exceptional patient care.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive ophthalmic workups.
- Obtain patient histories and document findings accurately.
- Perform diagnostic testing including:
- OCT
- Biometry
- Corneal Topography
- Visual Fields
- Corneal Imaging
- Educate patients regarding surgical procedures and postoperative care.
- Assist physicians during examinations and minor procedures.
Surgical Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for surgery and assist throughout the surgical process.
- Maintain sterile fields and assist during cataract and refractive procedures.
- Support surgeons during cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange (RLE), LASIK, EVO ICL, and other ophthalmic procedures.
- Prepare, clean, inspect, and organize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Coordinate efficient operating room turnover between cases.
- Verify lenses, surgical supplies, and equipment before each procedure.
- Ensure all documentation and surgical records are completed accurately.
