We work closely with our clients to manage their technology environments, solve problems efficiently, and deliver dependable support both remotely and onsite.
We are looking for an experienced Advanced Support Tech to join our team and help support a wide range of client environments, including Microsoft cloud, hybrid domain, endpoint management, networking, and end-user systems.
Position Summary
The Advanced Support Tech provides high-level IT support and operational administration for Hometown Tech’s business, school, and municipal clients. This role is responsible for independently resolving moderate to high complexity technical issues across desktop, network, Microsoft cloud, and hybrid environments.
This position includes a mix of remote work from home and onsite support at client locations. The Advanced Support Tech works closely with the System Architect and other team members to deliver reliable, secure, and efficient IT services.
This role is ideal for someone with strong troubleshooting skills, broad technical experience, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced small business environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced desktop and end-user support for Windows, ChromeOS, and common business applications
- Troubleshoot and resolve moderate to high complexity hardware, software, connectivity, and infrastructure issues
- Administer and support Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, on-prem Active Directory, and hybrid environments
- Create, modify, and manage user accounts, groups, permissions, licensing, and related administrative tasks
- Configure and deploy workstations, laptops, networking equipment, and other client hardware
- Troubleshoot authentication, access control, synchronization, DNS, Group Policy, device compliance, and cloud service issues
- Support and maintain Microsoft Intune and endpoint management systems
- Assist with administration and troubleshooting of Google Workspace environments
- Perform network support involving firewalls, gateways, switches, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, and Wi-Fi systems
- Complete onsite deployments, upgrades, hardware replacements, and infrastructure installations
- Participate in project implementation tasks under the direction of the System Architect
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to Support Techs when needed
- Travel regularly to client sites in Walworth County and surrounding areas
- Participate in an on-call rotation as needed
- Document work performed and maintain accurate technical documentation
- Escalate architectural, security, or highly specialized issues when appropriate
Knowledge and Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong understanding of IT support and systems administration concepts
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, and hybrid environments
- Experience with endpoint management platforms, especially Microsoft Intune
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, including firewalls, switches, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, and Wi-Fi
- General knowledge of Google Workspace administration
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
- Ability to independently manage technical tasks and prioritize workload effectively
- Clear communication skills with both technical and non-technical users
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Initiative, accountability, and a willingness to continue learning new technologies
Experience and Education
- 2+ years of IT support, systems administration, or managed services experience preferred
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and hybrid environments strongly preferred
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Microsoft 365, Azure, or similar certifications are preferred but not required
- Equivalent professional experience may substitute for formal education or certifications
Requirements
- Must reside in Wisconsin within approximately 30 miles of Sharon, WI
- Relocation grace period may be considered
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Ability to pass a background check, required due to work with schools and municipalities
- Ability to travel regularly to client sites in Walworth County and surrounding areas
Compensation and Benefits
Hometown Tech offers:
- Salary range of $50,000–$65,000 annually
