Sr. Research Scientist

V-Glass, LLC Waukesha, WI

$60,000 - $90,000 a year - Full-time

Help Build Window Technology That Could Cut Building Energy Losses in Half.

V-Glass, Inc. is a Waukesha, WI-based company developing vacuum insulated glass (“VIG”) technology for ultra-high-efficiency windows. Backed by significant venture funding and strategic partners, V-Glass is scaling a next-generation window technology that dramatically cuts building energy consumption and carbon emissions through superior thermal performance and extended lifespan.

We're looking for a Senior Research Scientist to lead hands-on testing, characterization, and process development for our vacuum insulated glass (VIG) technology. You'll operate and improve test instrumentation, develop new test methods, and work directly with our vacuum installation and production processes. This is a multi-disciplinary role — you'll move between chemistry, materials characterization, and equipment troubleshooting, and you'll need to prioritize your own schedule across several concurrent projects to get things done.

Job Description

Test VIG heat-transfer performance using lab instruments and testers; quickly learn the operating principles of heat-flow instruments and vacuum pressure systems; maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair testers and systems; design and implement modifications to resolve testing problems; and analyze vacuum-released compounds using RGA (Residual Gas Analyzer) or similar techniques.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and optimize tests required to qualify VIG performance

Identify contaminants that decay vacuum in VIGs

Improve decontamination of the internal envelope of VIGs

Process data and maintain a database of VIG tests performed

Multitask and effectively handle multiple assignments through project prioritization and time management

Organize tasks into a timeline and ensure deadlines are met

Requirements

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent relevant work experience

Hands-on experience designing and running tests or experiments in an instrumental or applied chemistry/science setting

Working knowledge of heat transfer, adsorption and absorption, and surface chemistry

Detail-oriented, proactive, responsible, and punctual, with excellent organizational and time-management skills

Nice to have:

Experience with RGA, mass spectrometry, microscopy, or other analytical techniques

Experience with thermal or photo-activated processes

Familiarity with design-of-experiments (DOE) methods

Experience with vacuum systems

Working Environment

This position includes working in a manufacturing and/or warehousing work environment. While performing the duties of this job you may be required to intermittently sit, stand, walk, lift up to 30 pounds, lift in excess of 30 pounds with a lift assist, climb stairs, use hands to handle or feel parts/equipment, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend at the waist, talk and hear, and have good eyesight. You may also be required to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule / Travel

Core work hours are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Available to travel as needed for technology development and supplier interactions
