Details

Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) District announces an opportunity to work as a Specialist I to serve students, faculty, and staff in the Rising Scholars Program (RSP). The RSP team seeks a dedicated, coachable professional and team player willing to learn while putting students first.

Students in the RSP can earn their General Education and Golden Four requirements leading to an Associate Degree for Transfer (AD-T) in Sociology – in some locations Career & Technical Education certifications. This is an innovative program fostering quality access to education for currently and formerly incarcerated/detained students while emerging as a pillar within the LTCC community.

Students are intelligent and eager to learn; as a result, the Rising Scholars Program (RSP) team is looking for similar qualities in a new team member. Applicants must have the ability to learn quickly, retain information, and maintain a positive, collaborative attitude. This position primarily works within the RSP office, building and maintaining relationships with industry partners and regularly communicating with external stakeholders to support program operations and student success. There are occasional opportunities to travel to partner facilities to collaborate with education coordinators, establish and strengthen program processes, and support institutional partnerships. In rare instances, the position may involve visiting correctional facilities and meeting directly with students to better understand and support their educational experience.

This position serves a diverse student population, actively embraces anti-racist practices, and demonstrates a commitment to expanding educational access as a means of addressing and dismantling the impacts of mass incarceration.

Some travel is required to levels 1-4 satellite locations. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one upon hire, and be willing and able to operate college vehicles for work-related travel.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
After review, suitable applicants will be invited by phone or email on or around Wednesday, August 26, 2026to participate in a skills assessment. Successful candidates will then be interviewed by a committee of approximately 3-5 individuals; these interviews are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. LTCC reserves the right to return to the applicant pool at any point during the recruitment process.

COMPENSATION:
Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $52,450 to $57,911 annually, dependent on education and experience. There is potential to reach $67,156 annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate. In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay. This position may qualify for the telecommute pilot program, which allows employees the opportunity to telecommute for up to 20% of the work week.

Benefits: Health and Welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long term disability. Several plan options maintain a zero monthly premium cost from the employee and include full coverage of a gold-level medical plan that, on average, covers 80% of healthcare expenses for a standard population. LTCC also matches 27% of an eligible employee’s salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees.

Work-Life Balance: This position is 40 hours per week and 12 months per year, including summer and winter hours. Hours are expected to be Monday-Friday, generally within the hours of 8 am to 5 pm, hours may vary according to the needs of the program. This position is eligible for overtime compensation (non-exempt).

LTCC provides a generous leave package including 17 paid holidays per year plus 12 days vacation (with the potential to reach 24 days through years of service) and 12 days sick leave per year.

Definition:
Under the direction of an assigned Director or Administrator, perform a full range of duties under general supervision which involves specialized assignments. Position works independently, exercising initiative within general guidelines in performing the full range of duties assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

A Specialist is trained or highly skilled in a particular subject(s). This is the entry-level class in the Specialist series under general supervision of a director or administrator within a department or division. Position performs a full range of duties under general supervision which involves specialized assignments. Position works independently, exercising initiative within general guidelines in performing the full range of duties assigned. Impact on students, financial, physical, or personnel resources is generally department or division wide with possible external connections.

Representative Duties:
Perform a variety of specialized duties in the development, planning and implementation of designated Program functions and services in support of day-to-day operations including the coordination of program component functions; assist in establishing program time lines, goals and objectives; assure compliance with established standards, guidelines, requirements, policies and procedures of an assigned program.

Plan, organize and perform a variety of administrative program support duties; input student, program and a variety of other data into an assigned computer system; establish and maintain various automated records and files; prepare and maintain reports, correspondence, memorandum, and other written documents for an assigned program; review and edit materials for accuracy; assist with special projects related to designated programs as assigned.

Serve as an area expert for program participants, students and others concerning assigned services and functions; interpret, apply and explain program services, policies and procedures to students, staff, other schools and outside agencies; respond to inquiries and provide detailed information and feedback concerning related programs; provide assistance in response to changing Program needs.

Compile, assemble, duplicate, maintain and disseminate a variety of informational materials related to assigned programs, services and functions; accept, process and evaluate a variety of program applications, forms and documents.

Prepare and deliver oral presentations concerning assigned program services and related functions as assigned.

Research, gather, compile and collate statistical information and other data as directed.

Maintain current knowledge of program and organizational laws, rules, regulations and policies.

Communicate with staff, other departments and outside agencies to exchange information, resolve issues and coordinate activities.

Train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned staff and student aides as required.

Attend and participate in a variety of meetings, conferences and in-service trainings; serve as a member on committees as assigned; schedule and coordinate appointments with staff, students and faculty.

Rising Scholars Program (RSP) Option Class:
Create, monitor and maintain systems to facilitate the administration of the Rising Scholars Program education goals; create databases for program management and marketing; provide technical support and assistance for the RSP, including outside agencies and adjunct instructors, monitor quarterly schedule offerings with instructors and the schedule production process.

Create and monitor contracts; prepare board of trustee agenda items; assist with registration and tracking of students; assist with RSP budget development and track budget and program expenditures; prepare purchase requisitions and conference/travel forms as needed.

Gather, compile and collate statistical information and other data; prepare reports; organize, establish and maintain record keeping systems for correspondence, documents, materials and records; record and log incoming information and follow up on missing or incomplete information.

Ability to gain and maintain California Department of Corrections gate clearance. Frequent visits to prison ranging from levels 1-4.
