Full Job Description

REPORTS TO:

Executive Director

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Director of Family Advocacy and Community Engagement is responsible for the supervision of CACHSC Family Support Specialist services and prevention education in all counties served by the CACHSC. This position will supervise Family Support Specialists and coordinate the internship and volunteer program. This position will participate in networking and speaking opportunities and committees focused on improving education and awareness of child abuse throughout the community.

This individual must understand the importance of educating the community about child abuse along with the purpose and function of the CACHSC and be knowledgeable of existing policies and procedures.

The Director of Family Advocacy and Community Engagement must be available to work occasional nights and weekends for special projects, events, or supervision of emergency cases.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Family Support Services

Oversees and Supervises all Family Support services at all CAC locations

Travel to satellite locations for supervision of staff and coordinate monthly department meetings

Establishes age-appropriate environments for family rooms and common areas

Ensures that all Family Support Specialists are trained and provide quality family assessments, crisis intervention, family follow-ups, and referrals to community resources

Evaluates and updates the community resources list for children and families

Review electronic case files for completion and quality of services

Maintains knowledge of current research on child abuse issues

Community Engagement

Oversees bachelor internship program, supervises, and mentors student interns or volunteers

Ensures the CACHSC provides community outreach & education at public events, schools, health fairs, etc.

Provides training/education for members of the community regarding child abuse prevention, recognition & reporting

Develops, where and when necessary, new programs/projects targeting specific populations of primary and secondary victims of child abuse

Coordinates special projects with the Administration team, such as Child Abuse Awareness month

Records and tracks statistical information about training provided to children, educators, and community members

Provides CACHSC representation at local social service committees

Other Duties

Provide criminal and civil testimony when applicable

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

At a minimum, the Director of Family Advocacy and Community Engagement will have:

A master's degree in social work or related field

Experience supervising or managing program services

Minimum of 4 years of experience working directly with child abuse victims and their families preferred

Knowledge of child development and implementation of age-appropriate practices

Demonstrated knowledge of child abuse and neglect

Demonstrated professional experience with public speaking

Demonstrated experience in working with individuals in crisis

Ability to understand and abide by the confidentiality requirements and procedures related to working in an environment such as the CACHSC

Bilingual: English and Spanish

Strong oral and written communication skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Windows 10, Word, Excel, and Outlook

Demonstrated commitment to ongoing cross-disciplinary education and openness to supervisory feedback

Experience in working with diverse professionals from child protection, law enforcement, court systems and related community services

Successfully completes a DFPS and criminal history background check

Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines

Effective verbal and communication skills

Ability to work well with others

Bending, stooping, reaching, and other movement required in dealing with children. Lifting of office materials (up to 20 lbs.)
