Full Job Description

Heart and Hand Ministries (HNH) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1997 to provide support for individuals and families experiencing poverty. Located in the Belton/Raymore area, we serve the needs of the surrounding community as well as all of Cass County and parts of south Jackson County.

Our mission is to come alongside people experiencing poverty and provide critical services and support to instill hope, encourage agency, and give people tools to build flourishing lives.

ROLE: Day Center Coordinator

Section 1: Overview and Scope of Position

In partnership with the Manager of Client Services and Day Center, this position will oversee the day-to-day functions of the Day Center that provides services and support to people who are experiencing homelessness in either an episodic or chronic basis, unemployment, or in need of social service support.
The successful candidate will have experience or be comfortable working with unhoused people, possess strong managerial skills to lead program staff and volunteer team, as well have effective administrative skills to capture & maintain critical data.

Section 2: Qualifications

● At least 1-2 years’ experience working with unhoused people and low-income
communities in non-profit, religious, government, or market context. 2+ years’
experience preferred.
● At least 1-2 years’ experience coordinating a high-capacity program or department in a
fast-paced environment where a mix of relational, logistical, and administrative skills
were utilized daily.
● Key characteristics: Strong work ethic, high relational capacity, team player, positive-outgoing attitude, and desire to serve in this role.
● Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn web-based software
quickly required.
● Valid driver license required.
● High School diploma required. College graduate strongly preferred.

Section 3: Responsibilities/Duties

Program Coordination

● Engage in managing the day-to-day needs of the Day Center in terms of relational
connection with client, logistical needs, and supervision of volunteers.
● Be first point-of-contact for people entering the space, which includes volunteers,
service practitioners, clients, donors, community partners, and others.
● Ensure compliance with client intake forms and action plans, including monthly
maintenance of actions plans.
● Be able to set a culture for the program that practices Trauma-Informed Care, insists on
healthy relational and communication practices, and restorative-based conflict
resolution – at the level of staff, volunteers, and clients.
● Continually evaluate the program to incorporate best practices for solutions based
services and to expand both reach and efficacy of programs
● Manage budget for the Day Center equipment and supplies including food purchasing,
seasonal clothing & other needs.

Client Services

● Be first point-of-contact, along with Client Services Manager, for clients entering the building during open hours of 10am–2pm.
● Cultivate relationships with clients to provide a safe space to recover
● Work with key staff to revise and implement Client Intake Form
● Fill out client intake form for all new clients and work to get current clients up to date
on Client Intake Forms
● Assist Client Services Manager client care when they experience emergency or crisis
situations. This may include sudden evictions, mental health crisis, a report of domestic
or sexual violence, the seeking of shelter or rehabilitation services, etc.
● Ensure that clients are all treated with dignity and respect as we seek to provide them
with services or resource them to a community agency that can facilitate their needs.
● Assist Clients with Shower and Laundry Services
● Assist with Food Services: making coffee, assist in serving prepared food
● Receive donations at the front door and assist with
● Keep facility stocked and cleaned: more detailed information will be given later
● Help de-escalate situations when clients become agitated, upset, exceptionally explicit in their language, or exhibiting any signs of aggression. For many situations, calling behavioral health services and/or police may be necessary. You will never have to handle these situations alone.
● Help direct clients to key services:
– Case Management, Admin Center, Transportation Services, Food Pantry, etc.

Miscellaneous

● Assist Client Services Manager to provide orientation and training for new volunteers,
including best practices for those new to engaging the unhoused community
● Provide regular encouragement to volunteers as well as feedback for any issues that
arise to ensure excellent in volunteer service
● Assist in maintaining, and updating Program Operation manual with all policies and
procedures outlined and updated as needed
● Oversee scheduling and contact for Wednesday chapel speakers, follow up with
speakers
● Ensure that all tasks for opening and closing the building each day take place
● Keep good records for day center statistics to report to Client Service Manager
● Assist with logistics for occasional small events in the Day Center: holiday parties,
special meals, and other occasional events.
● Provide support for “all hands-on deck” events
● Help with service projects who are doing work specifically in the Day Center space

Section 5: Working Conditions and Physical Effort

● Much of the work is typically performed in an interior temperature-controlled office
work environment.
● Position requires both prolonged periods of standing and walking around program
center, engaging in conversation with clients, and performing key functions of role.
● Some of the work will require loading and unloading boxes to/from our box truck,
ability to lift between 40-60 lbs. occasionally is required.
● Evening/weekends hours may be required on rare occasions.

Section 6: Compensation

● Pay Range: $16–$17/hr. at 25 hrs. per week with opp. for 30 hours.
● Schedule: 9am–2pm Monday–Friday (Potential for 9am–3pm with right candidate).
● Compensation: PTO is double the hours of average weekly schedule . E.g., 25 hours a
week equals 50 hours per year on an accrual basis.
● Paid Holidays: 10 paid holidays per year
● Other benefits: annual cost-of-living increases and performance-based pay increases
