TITLE: Certified Special Education Teacher (Kindergarten - Grade 5)
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor’s Degree
● Valid Louisiana Teaching Certification for Elementary Education or equivalent
- Early Interventionist - Kindergarten or;
- Grades 1-6
● Willingness to be trained and coached in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies
JOB GOAL: Under the supervision and direction of the Principal and Program Director, the
Certified Special Education Teacher effectively manages the learning environment by preparing lesson plans, instructing students, evaluating and monitoring students’ performance and advancing students' academic and emotional achievement.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 11 Month
TEACHER EVALUATION: Annually
COMPENSATION: 11-Month Certified Salary Schedule
PERFORMANCE/RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Teach content area curriculum to groups of 8 to 9 students rotating to assigned classroom pods for approximately 30 to 45 minute periods.
● Write effective lesson plans using the charter’s adopted scope and sequence documents with adopted curriculum in terms of what students will learn. Lessons should be annotated daily.
● Maintain high expectations and rigor with all student instruction.
● Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
● Coordinate with related services providers for delivery of related services in each student’s IEP.
● Implement behavior strategies in alignment with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
● Use and implement classroom management techniques to maintain organization, orderliness, student safety, and a productive learning environment
● Implement instructional techniques to encourage and motivate students
● Evaluate students’ performance regarding achievements in curriculum and activities and document progress towards IEP goals

● Ensure parents and students are informed of curriculum used in the classroom, activities throughout the school and data generated during lessons
● Collaborate with a classroom team that includes para and/or behavior specialists with the support and oversight of the Principal and Program Director
● Ensure classroom support staff are implementing instructional strategies and lessons as set forth by ACE instructional model
● Provide daily feedback to support staff
● Participate in regular observations and in-the-moment coaching from Principal and/or
Program Director and implement action steps following coaching sessions
● Modification of materials to meet student needs and IEP requirements
● Maintain substitute plans in case of Teacher absence
● Follow the specific instructional requirements established by ACE, Louisiana Department of Education, Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), and/or Federal regulations and guidelines established by each
● Participate in all duties and responsibilities as appropriate for an ACE faculty member (see Employee Handbook)
● Collect, analyze, and report data in a meaningful manner
● Celebrates the achievements and successes of students.
● Other duties as assigned by the administration
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Maintain professional personal appearance as guided by ACE adopted dress code
● Attend work regularly; report on time; and provide advance notice of need for absence
● Complete work efficiently and accurately (with few/no errors) within deadlines without supervision, such as:
- Lesson Plans
- IEP development and documentation
- Data collection
■ Benchmarks, behavior management, MTSS, etc.
■ complete within timelines indicated in Special Education Policy and
Procedure Manual
■ hold IEP meetings within expected timelines
■ schedule IEP meetings and other parent/caregiver meetings on
Wednesday at the end of the student day (no earlier than 1:00).
■ ensure IEPs have all required signatures
■ ensure IEPS are validated and all errors are corrected prior to submission
■ IEPs must be filed with the Special Education Coordinator within 10 days of the IEP date.
● Perform job responsibilities consistently, use time wisely, plan properly, take care of materials and equipment as outlined in the ACE Employee Handbook

● Complete and submit all forms, report, documentation, and training by required dates and in accordance with ACE policies and procedures
● Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior
Analysis (ABA)
● Ability to communicate with co-workers and other stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner
● Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
● Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
● Obtain and maintain CPI and CPR certification
● Other duties as assigned by the administration

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Set-up of lessons and instructional activities for classroom support staff
● Coaches, monitors, and mentors classroom support staff working with students with disabilities.
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
LIGHT WORK:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor classroom setting.
