Full Job Description

Position: Robotics & Autonomy Engineer - UAV Platforms

Description

Exedy, a well-established global Tier 1 automotive supplier, is expanding its reach into the global agricultural and heavy-lift drone markets. We are seeking a hands-on Robotics & Autonomy Engineer to support the development of next-generation UAV platforms focused on intelligent navigation, obstacle avoidance, mission autonomy, and operational efficiency.

The candidate will work closely with electrical, embedded systems, and software engineering teams to develop and integrate autonomy capabilities into UAV platforms. This role is responsible for developing perception, navigation, and mission-planning capabilities that improve safety, robustness, and productivity in real-world agricultural and industrial environments.

This position requires a practical engineer capable of moving beyond research prototypes to develop, test, validate, and deploy autonomy solutions on production-oriented UAV systems.

Experience

B.S. or M.S. in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

3+ years of experience developing robotics, autonomy, UAV, autonomous vehicle, or mobile robot systems.

Experience with real-world deployment, testing, and validation of robotic systems preferred.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perception, Navigation and Autonomy

Develop obstacle detection and avoidance capabilities using LiDAR, radar, stereo cameras, and other perception sensors.

Implement sensor fusion and environment representation techniques.

Develop autonomous navigation and path-planning algorithms.

Optimize mission execution to improve productivity, coverage efficiency, and overall system performance.

Evaluate and implement algorithms for obstacle avoidance, trajectory generation, and coverage planning.

Support future development of advanced autonomy capabilities such as dynamic obstacle avoidance and mission optimization.

2. UAV Integration

Integrate autonomy software with PX4-based flight control systems.

Develop companion computer software using ROS2, MAVLink, MAVSDK, and related frameworks.

Support integration of perception sensors including LiDAR, radar, and vision systems.

Define software interfaces between autonomy systems, avionics, and payload subsystems.

Collaborate with electrical, embedded systems, and software engineering teams to support system integration and validation.

3. Verification and Testing

Develop simulation environments for autonomy validation.

Support Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and field testing activities.

Analyze flight logs and autonomy performance metrics.

Investigate and resolve issues identified during testing and flight operations.

4. General

Self-starter capable of working independently in a concept-stage product development environment.

Comfortable working with evolving requirements and rapid development cycles.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability and willingness to support flight testing activities.

Ability and willingness to travel internationally.
