About the Role

We are a Charlotte-based specialty contractor focused on the design, fabrication, and installation of custom steel windows and doors. We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer to join our in-house team and support the full project lifecycle — from initial client drawings through fabrication-ready shop drawings and field installation documentation.

This is a niche role that sits at the intersection of architectural drafting, steel fabrication, and residential construction — and we're looking for someone who genuinely understands all three.

What You'll Do

Produce detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and installation details for custom steel windows and doors
Interpret architectural plans, specifications, and site conditions to develop accurate technical drawings
Collaborate directly with project managers, estimators, and field installation teams
Develop and maintain drawing sets through design revisions and submittal processes
Create cross-section details and construction assemblies consistent with residential building practices
Communicate drawing status and flag conflicts or constructability issues early

What We're Looking For

2+ years of CAD drafting experience in a fabrication, construction, or millwork environment
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks — these are the tools we use daily
Strong understanding of residential construction techniques, including wall assemblies, rough openings, flashing details, and finish conditions
Ability to read and interpret full architectural drawing sets
Experience with steel windows, doors, or curtainwall systems is a significant plus — this is uncommon and we value it highly
Familiarity with shop drawing submittal processes and coordination with architects or GCs
Organized, self-directed, and comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously

Nice to Have

Background in steel fabrication or wood framing
Experience working with custom or architectural-grade fenestration products
Exposure to Revit or other BIM platforms, Fusion 360 and 3D printing.
