About Eagle Mount Billings

Eagle Mount Billings creates meaningful experiences for youth and adults with disabilities through adaptive recreation. We are a small, collaborative, mission‑driven team that values dignity, belonging, and community connection. Our programs include adaptive skiing/snowboarding, cycling, indoor climbing, golf, summer camp, social programs, group fitness, school field trips, and community events — all designed to foster independence, joy, and lifelong friendships.

Position Summary

The Assistant Program Director supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of Eagle Mount’s year‑round adaptive recreation programs. This role is highly hands‑on and participant‑centered, helping ensure programs are safe, organized, inclusive, and responsive to individual needs.

The Assistant Program Director works closely with the Program Director and Executive Director to lead activities, coach volunteers, teach adaptive techniques, and model trauma‑informed, dignity‑forward practices. This individual will be a key member of our program team and play an essential role in strengthening the quality, consistency, and impact of our adaptive recreation experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Coordination

Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of year‑round adaptive recreation programs, including skiing/snowboarding, cycling, climbing, golf, summer camp, social programs, adaptive field trips, and group fitness.
Lead activities during programs, ensuring safety, smooth operations, and positive participant experiences.
Help develop and maintain program calendars, schedules, and facility agreements.
Assist with creating and updating SOPs, safety plans, curriculum, and program documentation.
Support annual program evaluations and help implement improvements.
Maintain program equipment inventory and assist with repairs, replacements, and readiness checks.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols, risk‑management practices, and HIPAA.

Volunteer Leadership & Training

Recruit, train, supervise, and support program volunteers.
Provide clear expectations, coaching, and real‑time guidance during programs.
Teach foundational adaptive recreation techniques across multiple program areas (ski, cycling, climbing, golf, summer camp activities).
Match volunteers to programs based on skills, personality, and participant needs.
Help develop and deliver ongoing volunteer training in communication, safety, adaptive equipment, and inclusive support.
Support volunteer appreciation and retention efforts.

Participant & Family Support

Build strong, respectful relationships with participants, families, and caregivers.
Conduct participant intake conversations and ability assessments.
Ensure programs are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to participant needs.
Provide trauma‑informed, dignity‑forward support and model these practices for volunteers.
Communicate clearly and consistently about schedules, expectations, and program updates.

Community Partnerships & Outreach

Support partnerships with schools, colleges, businesses, and community organizations.
Represent Eagle Mount at outreach events, presentations, and community meetings.
Assist with collaborative programming and special events.
Support in‑kind donations, sponsorships, and program‑related fundraising efforts as needed.

Administrative & Organizational Responsibilities

Assist with program budgets and communicate needs to the Program Director and Executive Director.
Maintain accurate participant, volunteer, and program records.
Support registration, forms, ability grids, and program documentation.
Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and organizational events.
Support VISTA members, interns, or students as assigned.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, Human Services, Kinesiology, Outdoor Recreation, Rehabilitation Sciences, Social Work, Youth Development, or a related human‑services or recreation field.
3-6+ years of experience in adaptive recreation, disability services, therapeutic programming, or related fields.
Understanding of disability, accessibility, and person‑centered support.
Experience supervising volunteers, interns, or staff.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and lead recreation programs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams; ability to learn Salesforce and other platforms.
Ability to lift 50 lbs and participate in physical aspects of adaptive recreation.
Experience with adaptive equipment and modifications.
Experience with trauma‑informed practices and behavior support.
Experience training volunteers or staff.
Experience with community outreach or partnership development.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 2 weeks of hire).
