Full Job Description

The Executive Director of the Vermont Recreation and Parks Association (VRPA) serves as the organization's chief administrative and strategic leader, responsible for advancing the Association's mission through organizational growth, member engagement, financial stewardship, and operational excellence. Working collaboratively with the Executive Committee, the Executive Director provides visionary leadership to strengthen and expand the Association's membership, programs, partnerships, and statewide impact. This position fosters sustainable organizational development by implementing strategic initiatives, securing new funding opportunities, enhancing member services and professional development, overseeing effective communications, and representing VRPA at the state and national levels. The Executive Director ensures the Association remains a vibrant, responsive, and financially sustainable resource for Vermont's parks, recreation, and trail professionals while positioning the organization for continued growth and long-term success.

Budget & Finance

Work with the Executive Committee to prepare an annual Association budget by providing requested information, insight, and recommendations.
Monitor the annual budget with the Association Treasurer and report back to the Executive Committee on budget status at least quarterly.
Manage all income and expense transactions in collaboration with the Executive Committee Treasurer and Chair.
Research and coordinate new fundraising opportunities through grants, sponsorships, public/private partnerships, programs, or in-kind service.
Evaluate and recommend program fees and charges.

Membership Services and Communications

Lead efforts to recruit and retain Association members, including recruitment of new, non-traditional, and under-represented groups/individuals, with support from the Executive Committee (or other committees as designated).
Develop and maintain an accurate membership database, including a convenient, web-based portal for membership renewals and sign-ups.
Ensure the Association website and social media channels are maintained with current information and regularly updated.
Lead coordination and implementation of membership communications as agreed to with the Executive Committee, including but not limited to, mailings, newsletters, website content, social media content, and press releases.
Provide access to an annual slate of trainings that meets member needs and supports acquisition of the Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) necessary to maintain professional credentials (namely Certified Parks and Recreation Professional and Certified Parks and Recreation Executive certifications).
Ensure the successful coordination and delivery of the annual Vermont Conference on Parks, Trails, and Recreation.
As needed/appropriate, provide technical assistance to members, or help them navigate to appropriate resources to address their needs.

Organizational Management and Development

Support the Executive Committee Chair in the development and maintenance of a strategic plan for the Association and support the development and implementation of annual goals and objectives related to that plan.
Ensure adopted policies and procedures are recorded accurately and are readily available for officers and members. Develop a plan to ensure adopted policies and procedures are reviewed annually and updated as needed.
When appropriate/assigned by the Executive Committee, assist sub-committees in developing and achieving goals.
Assist Chair in performing their duties and responsibilities, including support with creating and distributing agendas for Executive Committee Meetings.
Understand and work with state and federal laws and regulations that govern not-for-profit organizations.
Maintain Association files and historical information.
Prepare and execute all contracts on behalf of the Association in consultation with the Chair and Treasurer.

Association Representation (in coordination with Executive Committee and Chair)

Represent the Association with the government and Association community on statewide and national levels as requested by the Executive Committee.
Work with the Executive Committee to develop and communicate an annual set of legislative priorities, including advocacy work as available/appropriate.

Pay: $33.00 per hour
