Full Job Description

Overview

We’re hiring CNC Machinists for our rapidly growing custom machining department in a highly technical, low-volume/high-mix environment. We trust our machinists: you will regularly be handed a blueprint and raw forgings, and it will be up to you to set up the machine, tweak the program, and deliver flawless parts.

What you'll be doing:

Working hands-on with highly specialized, proprietary automated mills and lathes that are custom-tuned to our specific applications.
Using your strong mechanical aptitude to understand the "why" behind every machining process.
Building the high-performance components that power top-of-the-line consumer and industrial machines.

Compensation

$25 / hr base
$1.50 - $2 /hr shift differential (on 3rd and 2nd shift respectively)
Promotion within a year

Shift

2nd Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
3rd Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Responsibilities

Complex Setups & Changeovers – Perform high-quality, rapid changeovers and setups on automated CNC lathes, mills and proprietary machining centers to run custom, short-run parts.
Blueprint & GD&T Interpretation – Strictly analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications to determine exact dimensions, tolerances, and machining strategies.
Program Adjustments – Navigate CNC controls to touch off tools, calculate offsets, and confidently modify existing G-code and subroutines at the machine to dial in part accuracy.
Precision Metrology – Use the metric system alongside a wide variety of micrometers, calipers, and highly specialized gauges to ensure parts meet incredibly tight, high-performance tolerances.
Machine Troubleshooting – Dynamically learn new, proprietary machinery; troubleshoot issues creatively and make adjustments to maintain quality and minimize scrap
Automation Interaction – Operate and monitor automated systems and robotics (e.g., Kawasaki robots) integrated with the machining cells.

Qualifications

Experience: 3+ years of proven hands-on experience in a precision CNC machining environment
Setup Mastery: Must be capable of performing your own quality setups from scratch, dialing in offsets, and making custom parts without constant oversight.
Technical Literacy: Exceptional blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills are an absolute must.
Math Skills: Strong foundation in intermediate math, specifically geometry, for calculating tool paths and dimensional adjustments.
Gauging & Measurement: Highly proficient with calipers, mics, and various manual gauges; comfortable working exclusively in the metric system.
Bonus/Preferred Skills (Not Required):
Machinist 1 Certification or equivalent degree
Previous manual machining background
Experience with 5-axis mills
Knowledge of industrial automation/Kawasaki robots

Pay: $26.00 - $27.00 per hour

How many years of CNC experience do you have? How many years of manual machining do you have? What brands of mills and lathes?
Do you have an associates or equivalent degree in Machine Tool Technology from a technical school like TCAT? If not, are you currently enrolled in such a program?
Tell me about some of the parts you've machined entirely from blueprints. How do you break down a part into the individual steps required to machine it?
Can you handle all of your own set ups and validations? Tell me about a complex set up that you've set up end to end recently.
What is your experience level with GD&T?
How strong are your math skills? Can you work comfortably with concepts like probability and statistical inference, planes, solid geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions?
Which shifts are you comfortable working? 2nd shift is 2-10pm. 3rd shift is 10pm - 6am.
