Overview
This role is an entry level technical position within Cordica Medical Manufacturing Excellence and Automation group that will provide technical expertise that supports product development, engineering, and manufacturing through equipment selection, development, repair, programming, testing, and installation. Additionally, you will interface directly with component and equipment suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Design and evaluate new equipment automation and controls in conjunction with senior level Automation and Controls Specialists, engineering and manufacturing that improve cost position, remove complexity, and/ or enhance safety for Cordica Medical.
- Support engineering and manufacturing in determining the make vs. buy/ develop decision for new equipment or enhancements to existing equipment from an automation and controls perspective.
- Develop equipment automation and controls that support Cordica Medical product/ process development using advanced automation and controls including, but not limited to the following: robots, PLCs, vision systems, HMIs, SCADA.
- Develop and document automation and control procedures for operating personnel and maintenance technicians that is aligned with Cordica Medical quality system. Provide required code and limit settings as required for specific IQ/OQ documentation.
- Ensure that all drawings, schematics, documented programs are updated on network at completion of project.
- Troubleshoot and repair of existing equipment, electrical/ control failures on production equipment and controls in support of manufacturing and maintenance technicians through inspection, investigation, and testing on the following types of equipment (not limited to):
- Robots and pick & place operations
- Marking equipment including ink jet,
- Drives including VFD laser, and other marking equipment
- Motors including servos
- HMI/SCADA
- Vision inspection cameras
- Switches, pressure controls/monitors
- All mechanical, pneumatic, cylinders, slides, manifolds, FL units, etc.
- Troubleshoot and configure EtherNet/IP Remote I/O communications networks and protocols as required.
- Attend continuing education courses (in-house, 3rd party, or self-study) to ensure technical skills remain current.
- Ensure that all automation and controls meet governmental and Cordica Medical safety and GMP requirements.
- Ensure that you follow all PPE, safety, and GMP guidelines are followed when working or transiting production or controlled environments.
- Ability to travel (<10%) to vendor sights or other Cordica Medical locations as demands dictate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to participate in automation and controls projects within cost and time constraints.
- Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot basic ladder logic programs for PLCs in various software suites.
- Basic competency working with all the following equipment: PLC, Motors including servo, Drives including VFD
- Technical knowledge to read and interpret electrical circuit diagrams/ wiring schematics combined with a basic understanding of NEC regulations and control circuits. Strong knowledge of lock out/ tag out procedures.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within an electrical, mechanical, machine shop environment. Working understanding of electrical testing equipment commonly used in an industrial plant, such as amp meters, voltmeters, Meggers, conduit benders, and other hand or power tools equipment related to the job.
- Working knowledge Microsoft Office suite (mainly Outlook and Excel).
- Analytical approach to problem solving and development with the disposition to engage engineering, maintenance, and operating personnel on requirements and issues.
Education / Experience Required:
- High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in an electrical maintenance or support position within a manufacturing environment.
Training / Continuing Education
Some continuing education is necessary on an annual basis. This may include third party training, in-house training, or self-study.
Physical Requirements
- The employee must regularly stand, walk, lift and/or move
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the proper equipment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical systems and around/near energized electrical systems while following necessary safety procedures and wearing appropriate PPE.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to position himself/herself to operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair equipment. This may require climbing stairs/ladders, bending, kneeling, crawling, and/or stooping.
- The employee must be able to inspect equipment and detect equipment malfunctions, as well as utilize tools to repair and maintain equipment.
- This position is an hourly position requiring at least 40 hours per week, with some night or weekend work as projects and manufacturing critical repair dictates.
