Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated, experienced dog trainer to conduct private in-home training sessions throughout the Chicago area. This is not an entry-level position. You must be comfortable working independently, communicating with clients, and confidently coaching owners through every stage of the training process.
Our ideal candidate is passionate about dog behavior, enjoys teaching people just as much as training dogs, and takes pride in producing exceptional results.
Responsibilities
- Conduct one-on-one private training sessions in clients' homes
- Develop customized training plans based on each dog's needs
- Teach owners proper handling techniques and training mechanics
- Work with puppies through advanced obedience
- Address common behavioral concerns including:
- Leash pulling
- Jumping
- Recall
- Reactivity
- Confidence building
- Impulse control
- Document client progress after each lesson
- Maintain professional communication with clients
- Represent K9 Driven Chicago with professionalism and integrity
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of professional dog training experience
- Experience conducting private lessons
- Strong understanding of balanced training principles
- Comfortable using:
- Prong collars
- Remote collars (E-Collar Technologies preferred)
- Food, toys, and reward-based motivation
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout Chicagoland
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and safely handle large breeds
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with:
- Working breeds
- German Shepherds
- Belgian Malinois
- Dobermans
- Rottweilers
- Labrador Retrievers
- Puppy development
- Off-leash obedience
- Environmental exposure training
- Neutrality around dogs and people
Certifications such as NePoPo®, PSA, IGP, AKC CGC Evaluator, or similar are a plus but not required.
