Job Description:
Pure Blue Tech is seeking a Senior Electronics Technician to join our rapidly growing membrane technology startup. This is a hands-on role at the heart of our patented ultrasonic reverse osmosis (USRO) technology. You will build, wire, test, and maintain the driver boxes that power the ultrasound transducers integrated into our membrane elements, operate these systems during element testing, and install and support our equipment in the field. You will work directly in support of our Chief Engineer and the broader engineering, production, and R&D teams, building to engineering designs while bringing your own experience to layout, packaging, troubleshooting, and installation, and you will support instrumentation across our production, test and pilot systems. Pure Blue Tech is a membrane and water treatment technology innovator and manufacturer with the mission of reducing the cost of treating and reusing water. The startup was founded to develop and commercialize patented fouling reduction technologies for industrial and municipal applications. These technologies, produced in our Bellingham headquarters, increase clean water productivity, enhance efficiency, and reduce cleaning and maintenance. Our flagship ultrasonic reverse osmosis elements bring ultrasound transducers to membrane filtration for the first time. The company and its founder have been awarded multiple awards from organizations including U.S. EPA, U.S. Army, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, WA State, University of Washington, Forbes, and High Country News.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Builds, wires, packages, and tests transducer driver boxes from engineering designs, including panel layout, enclosure design, cable and connector selection, and full functional checkout before release.
- Operates ultrasonic systems during USRO element testing: sets drive parameters per test procedures, monitors transducer and driver performance, and troubleshoots electrical faults to the board and component level.
- Leads field installation and commissioning of PBT equipment at customer and pilot sites, including mounting, wiring, power hookup coordination, startup, and on-site troubleshooting.
- Installs, wires, calibrates, and maintains instrumentation on test and pilot systems (pressure, flow, conductivity, temperature, level, and others) and verifies signals back to the data acquisition and control system.
- Uses bench equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and clamp meters to test, tune, and diagnose electronics and transducers.
- Reads and works from process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams; redlines drawings and maintains accurate as-built documentation.
- Fabricates and repairs cables, harnesses, and small assemblies; performs quality soldering and crimping to a professional standard.
- Maintains safe electrical work practices, including lockout/tagout, proper grounding, and safe handling of high voltage and high frequency circuits in a wet environment.
- Documents build procedures, checklists, and wiring documentation so that driver box production and field service are repeatable, freeing up engineering time.
- Supports the R&D and production teams with hands-on work in the lab and on the production floor as needed, and manages multiple jobs at a given time.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Education: Associate degree in electronics/electrical technology or equivalent hands-on experience (military technical training such as Navy ET/STG, apprenticeship, or trade school welcomed).
- Experience: 10 to 20 years of hands-on experience as an electrical/electronics technician, including building, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting electrical and electronic equipment.
- Electrical Fundamentals: Solid working knowledge of AC/DC circuits, power distribution, grounding, and electrical safety.
- Panel and Box Building: Demonstrated experience laying out and building control panels, enclosures, or driver/amplifier boxes, from schematic to finished, tested hardware.
- Field Installation: Proven experience installing and commissioning equipment in the field at industrial, municipal, or marine sites, and working professionally on customer premises.
- Ultrasonics/Acoustics: Experience with ultrasound, sonar, or piezoelectric transducer systems (for example Navy sonar, NDT ultrasonics, ultrasonic cleaning or welding equipment) is a strong plus.
- Instrumentation: Experience installing, wiring, calibrating, and troubleshooting process instrumentation and signal loops.
- Drawings and Documentation: Fluent in reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs. Detail oriented, organized, and disciplined about documentation and as-builts.
- Licensing: Washington journeyman electrician certification (or ability to obtain reciprocity) is a plus.
- Ownership: Takes ownership of completed work and is accountable for outcomes and timelines. Self-aware and willing to ask for assistance when needed.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong practical troubleshooting instincts and a methodical approach to finding root cause.
- Adaptability: Comfortable and effective in a fast-paced startup environment. Willing to assist and contribute to areas outside of primary job responsibilities.
- On-Site and Travel: Willing to work on site in Bellingham, WA five days per week and travel to field installation sites as needed.
- Physical Capability: Physically capable of hands-on shop and field work, including standing for an entire 8-hour shift, working in industrial environments, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Legal Authorization: Authorized to work in the U.S. Valid driver’s license required for field work.
