Full Job Description

Overview
We are seeking a passionate and creative Youth Filmmaking Instructor to join our team this Fall for weekly after school program instruction to children ages 10-13. This role involves educating and inspiring young filmmakers by providing hands-on instruction in digital DSLR operation, ideation, scriptwriting, acting, creative expression, and basic post-production editing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with children and a deep appreciation for the art of movies. This position is perfect for individuals who enjoy fostering creativity in a supportive environment. Please note this is a part time position, with one to two days of after school instruction per week.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement engaging film curriculum tailored for youth participants.
Teach essential filmmaking skills, including camera operation, scriptwriting, acting, and storytelling techniques.
Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a positive and safe learning environment.
Provide individualized support to students, ensuring that each child feels valued and encouraged.
Organize short film projects from conception to completion, guiding students through the entire process.
Facilitate group discussions and critiques to enhance students' understanding of cinema concepts.
Collaborate with other instructors and staff to create a cohesive educational experience.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during activities.

Qualifications

Experience working with children in educational or recreational settings (e.g. school teacher, camp, tutoring, sports coaching).
Strong behavior management skills to maintain an effective learning environment.
Background in art, photography, film or related field is required.
Knowledge of special education practices is a plus.
First aid certification is desirable.
Ability to engage and inspire youth through creative teaching methods.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and community members.
A genuine passion for educating young minds and fostering their love for film.
As per state law, this position requires LiveScan background checks, which will be paid for by Midpen.
