Full Job Description

Neuropsychometrician — Part-Time / Per Diem

Practice: London Neuropsychology Group Location: Downtown Chicago (on-site) Schedule: Approximately 1–4 testing days per month; flexible scheduling Reports to: Lead Neuropsychologist Compensation: $30–$40 per hour, commensurate with training and experience. All administration, scoring, and documentation time is paid.

About the Practice

London Neuropsychology Group is a boutique independent practice in downtown Chicago specializing in comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation of adults. Our caseload includes cognitive and diagnostic evaluations, dementia and differential diagnostic workups, and forensic and medico-legal assessments. Because we are a small, fee-for-service practice, evaluations are unhurried and thorough — there is no volume pressure, and the person in this role works closely and directly with the neuropsychologist on every case. The lead neuropsychologist is a Johns Hopkins trained doctorate level neuropsychologist who has been a director of clinical training for clinical psychology doctoral student externs for nearly a decade.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced neuropsychometrician to administer and score standardized cognitive, academic, and psychological measures under the supervision of the lead neuropsychologist. This is a part-time, per diem position averaging one to four testing days per month. Testing days are scheduled collaboratively and in advance, and we are glad to build the calendar around graduate coursework, practicum or internship obligations, or another position. This arrangement is well suited to a psychometrician seeking supplemental clinical work or to a doctoral student who already has solid testing experience and wants continued exposure to adult and forensic evaluation.

Core Responsibilities

Test administration

Administer a range of neuropsychological, cognitive, academic, and psychological measures according to standardized procedures and the battery specified by the supervising neuropsychologist.
Exercise clinical judgment during sessions regarding pacing, breaks, discontinue rules, and when to consult the supervising neuropsychologist about modifying or substituting measures so that results remain valid and interpretable.
Monitor for fatigue, effort, and engagement throughout the day and flag concerns in real time rather than after the fact.

Rapport and patient care

Establish and maintain rapport with a clinically diverse adult population, including patients who are anxious, irritable, cognitively impaired, in pain, involved in litigation, or reluctant to participate.
Explain testing procedures clearly, orient patients to expectations for the day, and provide encouragement consistent with standardization.
Attend to patient comfort and safety throughout the evaluation, including appropriate assistance with mobility and coordination with accompanying family members or caregivers.

Scoring and documentation

Score all administered measures by hand and by computer with a high degree of accuracy, applying published scoring criteria and sound judgment to qualitative and open-ended responses.
Prepare organized data summary sheets and complete test files, and transmit them to the supervising neuropsychologist promptly after each testing day.
Write clear, specific, and behaviorally anchored observations covering presentation, effort and engagement, approach to tasks, error patterns, mood and affect, and any factors bearing on validity.

Materials and practice support

Maintain the test library, including protocols, stimulus books, test stimuli, record forms, and digital assessment platforms; keep materials organized and secure.
Track consumable inventory, anticipate needs based on upcoming caseload, and submit reorder requests in advance of shortages.
Assist with discrete projects as they arise, such as compiling normative or reference materials or refreshing battery templates and administration workflows.
Adhere to HIPAA, test security requirements, and all applicable ethical and professional standards for the handling of protected health information and copyrighted test materials.

Qualifications

We will consider candidates on either of two tracks:

Track 1 — Trained psychometrician

Bachelor's or master's degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a closely related field.
Minimum of one to three years of experience administering and scoring adult neuropsychological batteries in a clinical, hospital, or private practice setting.

Track 2 — Doctoral student

Current enrollment in a doctoral program in clinical psychology with a focus on neuropsychology.
Prior formal training and substantial hands-on testing experience within a neuropsychology practice, clinic, or hospital setting. This position is not structured as an entry-level training placement.
Ideally having completed an assessment practicum within an adult neuropsychology program within a hospital, clinic or private practice with good references and at least 20 completed cases.

Required across both tracks

Demonstrated independent proficiency with common adult measures of intellectual functioning, memory, executive functioning, language, visuospatial ability, processing speed, motor functioning, academic achievement, performance and symptom validity, and personality or psychological self-report.
Accurate, efficient hand scoring and comfort with computerized scoring platforms.
Strong writing skills sufficient to produce usable behavioral observations without extensive editing.
Meticulous attention to detail, conscientiousness, and reliable follow-through on documentation and turnaround.
Sound interpersonal judgment and professionalism with patients, families, referral sources, and attorneys.
Flexibility and composure when a testing day does not go as planned.
Ability to work independently between supervision contacts while knowing when to escalate a question.

Preferred

Familiarity with Q-interactive, PAR iConnect, or comparable digital administration platforms.
Experience with forensic or medico-legal evaluations, including sensitivity to validity testing.
Exposure to geriatric or dementia populations, traumatic brain injury, and ADHD evaluation in adults.
Coursework or supervised training in psychometrics and test construction.

Working Conditions

Work is performed on-site in a private outpatient office. Occasionally testing occurs within Chicago at Senior Buildings. Testing days typically involve extended periods of seated work with sustained concentration, occasional lifting and transport of test kits and materials, and in-person contact with patients, which carries the routine exposure to communicable illness inherent to any medical outpatient or assisted living setting. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Compensation

$30–$40 per hour, depending on training, experience, and independence with the battery. Compensation covers all hours worked, including test administration, scoring, preparation of data summary sheets, and drafting of behavioral observations. This is a part-time, non-benefited position.
