Part-Time Procedure Nurse / Surgical Assistant

Position Overview
Franklin Skin & Laser is seeking an experienced, highly dependable Procedure Nurse or Surgical Assistant to work directly with our physician during minor cosmetic, dermatologic, and office-based procedures.
This is a part-time position involving a maximum of two scheduled weekdays per week. There is no call, hospital coverage, night work, or weekend work.
We are looking for more than someone who can simply perform assigned tasks. The right person will be intelligent, organized, attentive, hardworking, and able to anticipate what is needed before being asked. This position is ideal for an experienced nurse or surgical technologist who values precision, professionalism, predictable hours, and the opportunity to become a trusted part of a small, physician-led practice.
Primary ResponsibilitiesProcedure Preparation and Assistance
- Prepare procedure rooms before each patient, including instruments, sterile supplies, medications, dressings, equipment, and other necessary materials.
- Assist the physician during minor cosmetic and dermatologic procedures.
- Establish and maintain an appropriate sterile or aseptic field.
- Anticipate procedural needs and provide instruments and supplies efficiently.
- Confirm that equipment is functioning properly before the procedure begins.
- Perform safe and efficient room turnover between patients.
- Assist with specimen handling and procedure-related documentation when applicable.
Patient Care
- Welcome patients and help create a calm, professional, and reassuring experience.
- Review and verify relevant pre-procedure information according to practice protocols.
- Obtain and document vital signs when appropriate and within the employee’s assigned responsibilities.
- Position, prepare, and drape patients for procedures.
- Observe patients during and after procedures and promptly communicate concerns to the physician.
- Provide post-procedure instructions, dressing assistance, and follow-up support according to established protocols and the individual’s credentials.
- Protect patient privacy and maintain strict confidentiality.
Infection Prevention and Instrument Processing
- Follow established sterile technique, infection-prevention, and exposure-control procedures.
- Clean, disinfect, package, sterilize, and store reusable instruments properly.
- Maintain sterilization documentation, testing records, and equipment logs.
- Inspect instruments and supplies for integrity, sterility, damage, and expiration.
- Keep procedure rooms, work surfaces, cabinets, and clinical storage areas exceptionally clean and organized.
Clinical Operations
- Maintain procedure-room inventory and notify the appropriate person before supplies become low.
- Receive, organize, rotate, and monitor clinical supplies.
- Identify expired, damaged, missing, or improperly stored materials.
- Assist with clinical photography and electronic health record documentation as assigned.
- Help improve procedure-room organization, setup standards, checklists, and workflow.
- Participate in training and demonstrate competency before independently performing assigned duties.
- Assist with other reasonable clinical duties needed to keep procedure days running safely and efficiently.
Qualifications
Candidates should meet one of the following qualification pathways:
- Current Tennessee RN or LPN license with appropriate outpatient procedural experience; or
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist credential or equivalent surgical-assisting experience; or
- Substantial prior experience assisting with office-based dermatologic, plastic-surgery, cosmetic, or ambulatory procedures.
Additional requirements include:
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- Strong working knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instruments, infection prevention, and instrument processing.
- Prior experience in dermatology, plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, an ambulatory surgery center, or an operating room is strongly preferred.
- Ability to learn physician preferences and procedure-specific setups.
- Ability to document accurately and use an electronic health record.
- Professional communication and a calm, reassuring manner with patients.
- Physical ability to stand for procedures, assist with patient positioning, and lift or move routine clinical supplies and equipment.
- Reliable transportation and consistent availability on agreed-upon workdays.
Responsibilities will be assigned according to the employee’s license, certification, training, demonstrated competency, and applicable practice requirements.
