Job Summary
Family Promise of the Lakeshore (based in Muskegon County) are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shelter Case Manager to join our team in providing vital support to individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability. In this role, you will coordinate and deliver comprehensive case management services within a shelter environment, empowering clients to achieve stability, secure permanent housing, and improve their overall well-being. Your proactive approach, combined with strong negotiation and crisis intervention skills, will be instrumental in fostering a safe, supportive atmosphere for those we serve. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference while working within a dynamic, mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities

Conduct thorough assessments of clients’ needs, including housing history, health, and social services requirements
Develop individualized service plans that incorporate resources such as LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) properties, Section 8 vouchers, and other affordable housing options
Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support to clients facing urgent challenges or emotional distress
Advocate on behalf of clients during negotiations with landlords and property management companies, ensuring compliance with Fair Housing regulations and landlord-tenant law
Coordinate access to addiction counseling, mental health services, and social work support to promote recovery and stability
Maintain accurate records using property management software such as Yardi or OneSite for tracking client progress and housing placements
Facilitate motivational interviewing sessions to empower clients in making positive life choices and overcoming barriers to housing

Requirements

Proven experience in social work, crisis management, or case management within homeless services or related fields
Knowledge of LIHTC programs, Section 8 housing vouchers, landlord-tenant law, and Fair Housing regulations
Strong negotiation skills to advocate effectively for clients with landlords and property managers
Ability to handle crisis situations with sensitivity and professionalism through crisis intervention techniques
Familiarity with property management software such as Yardi or OneSite is highly desirable
Excellent communication skills for engaging clients and collaborating with community partners
Certification or training in addiction counseling or motivational interviewing is a plus
