Team Member Responsibilities:
Pharmacy technicians are expected to meet the following requirements:
1.0 Duties and Responsibilities: Specific duties will include, but not be limited to:
-Retrieving, pouring, counting, labeling, and reconstituting prescription medications
-Ringing up sales, including preparing filled prescriptions for delivery
-Accessing, inputting, and retrieving information into/through the pharmacy’s computer network to maintain accurate records.
-This includes acquiring information on patient allergies and health conditions and insurance information
-Greeting and assisting customers and providing excellent customer care. The customer always is the first priority.
-Creating accurate prescription labels
-Submitting prescriptions refill requests/authorizations to prescribers electronically or via fax
-Processing and preparing third-party insurance claims, including calling insurance companies to resolve a third-party rejections
-Communicating with patients and third-parties, such as insurers
-Maintaining accurate patient profiles
-Maintaining pharmacy inventory
-Preparing reports related to sales, usage, and inventory
-Complying with current established procedures, rules, and regulations
-Providing completed orders to customers
-Providing the offer for counseling by a pharmacist
-Answering phones (preferably by the third ring) and directing customer calls to the appropriate personnel
-Maintaining and cleaning equipment, work areas, and shelves
-Accepting prescriptions to be filled and ensuring that the pharmacist has the information and data necessary to fill the orders
-Record keeping related to inventories, receipts, purchases, and deliveries
-Collecting co-payments
-Packaging and labeling products under the supervision of the pharmacist
-Restocking shelves
-Unpacking and organizing incoming drug orders, including sorting items that require special handling or storage
-Checking for outdated medications and notifying the pharmacist of low inventories
-Understanding confidentiality with respect to patient/ client care; complying with all federal and state laws applicable to the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and electronic protected health information (EPHI); and following HIPAA guidelines regarding readily identifiable protected health information
-Helping pharmacist deliver immunizations, including preparation such as providing patients with intake forms and VIS, processing and billing immunizations, and gathering necessary supplies before immunization.
-Working as a team and communicating clearly
-Helping customers locate over-the-counter products
-Handling customer problems/concerns in a calm manner and referring them to the pharmacist or management accordingly
-Notifying the pharmacist of any problems or issues.
-Checking and recording refrigerator and freezer temperatures
-Properly processing pseudoephedrine sales

Education and Qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalency
-Must have and maintain an Illinois state Certified Pharmacy Tech License.
-At least 18 years of age
-Prior experience as a cashier
-Immunization certification
-Certified Pharmacy technician license from the Illinois Board of Pharmacy
-Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
-Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees
-Ability to stand for long periods over the course of an 8-hour workday
-Ability to sit for intermittent periods
-Ability to bend, reach, climb, and squat frequently
-Ability to type and operate a computer
-Ability to speak on the telephone
-Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 50 lbs.
-Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
-Minimum of 2 years of experience as a licenced certified technician.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a retail business environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching throughout the day.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
Days and hours of work vary by schedule. Evening and weekend work are required as the schedule demands. Common weekday shifts include 9am-5pm, 12pm-8pm or 4pm-8pm. Weekend shifts include 9am-6pm and 9am-5pm. Open availability is a requirement for this position.
Required Education and Experience:
- Previous retail pharmacy experience required (2 yrs)
