ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Peninsula Engineering is seeking motivated CAD professionals at multiple experience levels to join our growing civil engineering team. Whether you are just starting your career in civil drafting or are a seasoned designer ready to lead complex projects, we have a place for you.
All levels work with AutoCAD Civil 3D on land development, site design, utility, drainage, grading, and roadway projects throughout Southwest Florida.
POSITION LEVELS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Entry-Level CAD Technician | 0–2 Years Experience
Supports the engineering and design team by preparing, editing, and organizing civil engineering drawings under the direction of senior staff. Ideal for recent graduates, junior drafters, or candidates transitioning into civil CAD who are detail-oriented, eager to learn, and interested in growing into a CAD Designer role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and revise civil engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Assist with basic plan production for land development, utility, roadway, grading, drainage, and site construction plans
- Set up sheets, viewports, title blocks, xrefs, layers, labels, and basic annotation
- Make redline corrections from engineers, designers, and project managers
- Perform basic drafting tasks including linework cleanup, labeling, hatching, and dimensioning
- Assist with plotting, PDF creation, and assembling construction plan sets
- Learn and follow company CAD standards, file naming, folder structure, and Civil 3D styles
Required: Basic AutoCAD knowledge, attention to detail, willingness to learn, team communication skills
Preferred: Exposure to Civil 3D, technical school/drafting certificate or related coursework, familiarity with civil engineering or survey drawings
Growth Path: Expected to develop into a CAD Designer role
CAD Designer / Technician | 2–6 Years Experience
Responsible for preparing civil engineering construction plans and supporting design production for land development, infrastructure, utility, grading, drainage, and roadway projects. Works with Engineers, Project Managers, and Senior CAD Designers to transform design concepts and engineering direction into complete, coordinated construction documents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare civil engineering construction plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Develop and maintain drawings for site plans, paving and grading, drainage, utilities, erosion control, roadway plans, and construction details
- Use Civil 3D tools to create and edit alignments, profiles, surfaces, corridors, pipe networks, feature lines, parcels, and plan production sheets
- Interpret survey data, engineering sketches, redlines, and design direction
- Prepare plan sets for internal review, client review, permitting, bidding, and construction
- Review drawings for consistency, clarity, labeling accuracy, and sheet-to-sheet coordination
- Assist with quantity takeoffs, exhibits, and permit-related graphics
- Coordinate xrefs, data shortcuts, sheet layouts, plotting, and file organization
Required: AutoCAD proficiency, working knowledge of Civil 3D, ability to prepare plan sheets with limited supervision, strong attention to detail
Preferred: Experience with land development, site design, grading, utilities, stormwater, or subdivision plans; familiarity with local permitting requirements
Growth Path: Senior CAD Designer, Lead Designer, or CAD Manager
Senior CAD Designer | 6+ Years Experience
An experienced technical design professional responsible for producing, coordinating, and reviewing complex civil engineering construction plans. Works closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and design staff to develop complete, accurate, and constructible plans. May mentor junior staff, assist with quality control, and help maintain company CAD standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead CAD design and plan production for complex civil engineering projects
- Develop Civil 3D models including surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, feature lines, parcels, grading objects, and plan production sheets
- Review drawings for accuracy, consistency, constructability, and compliance with company and agency standards
- Coordinate design information between multiple disciplines including survey, engineering, landscape architecture, permitting, and construction administration
- Identify design conflicts, missing information, and potential construction issues before plan submittal
- Provide guidance and technical support to CAD Technicians and Designers
- Assist with training, workflow improvements, CAD standards, templates, and production procedures
- Support Project Managers with agency comment responses, permit revisions, quantity takeoffs, and construction-related plan updates
Required: Advanced Civil 3D proficiency, strong civil plan production experience, ability to review plans for constructability, mentoring ability, strong coordination and communication skills
Preferred: Experience with CAD standards development, Civil 3D templates, agency review processes; leadership or mentoring experience; 8–12+ years for senior-level responsibilities
Growth Path: Lead CAD Designer, CAD Manager, Design Manager, or technical leadership
QUALIFICATIONS — ALL LEVELS
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D (level of proficiency varies by position)
- Familiarity with civil engineering plan types: grading, utilities, drainage, roadway, site layout
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and communicate clearly
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Interest in land development and civil site design in Southwest Florida
