Full Job Description

Exterior Sheet Metal Operations Coordinator
Central Iowa | Full-Time | $50,000-$75,000

A growing, privately held specialty trades contractor in Central Iowa is seeking an Exterior Sheet Metal Operations Coordinator to help lead the day-to-day execution of our exterior sheet metal and specialty finishes department.

This is an opportunity for an experienced construction professional who is ready to move beyond working only in the field and begin developing into an operational leadership role.

You do not need to be a polished department manager on day one. We are looking for someone with strong construction judgment, organization, follow-through, and the drive to learn. The right candidate will receive hands-on training and guidance from experienced industry leadership, with a clear path toward greater responsibility.

The Role

You will help coordinate projects from preconstruction through completion, keeping information, materials, shop production, field crews, vendors, and contractors aligned.

This is a hands-on position for someone who can understand construction, communicate clearly, solve problems, and keep work moving.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate active and upcoming exterior sheet metal projects
Review architectural drawings, specifications, scopes, measurements, and job details
Assist with material takeoffs, estimates, proposals, purchasing, and material lists
Help schedule field labor, materials, equipment, deliveries, and shop production
Communicate with installers, fabricators, suppliers, general contractors, and internal staff
Prepare crews with the drawings, materials, equipment, and information needed to perform the work
Track job progress, labor usage, costs, open items, deadlines, and production issues
Identify problems early and help develop practical solutions
Assist with billing, change orders, RFIs, submittals, closeout documents, and project records
Attend jobsite and contractor meetings as needed
Help maintain expectations for quality, safety, schedule, cost, and customer service
Develop the skills needed to assume greater leadership responsibility within the department

What We’re Looking For

This position may be a strong fit for someone with experience in:

Exterior sheet metal
Commercial roofing or siding
Architectural wall or roof panels
Flashing and trim
Carpentry or exterior construction
Sheet metal fabrication
Field supervision
Project coordination
Construction estimating
A related commercial trade

Direct exterior sheet metal experience is valuable, but it is not required if you bring strong construction knowledge, sound judgment, and the willingness to learn.

Ideal Candidate

The right candidate will have:

Solid construction knowledge and practical problem-solving ability
The ability to read—or quickly learn to read—architectural drawings, specifications, and project scopes
Strong organization, time management, and follow-through
Clear communication skills with field crews, office staff, vendors, and contractors
Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Word, and Excel
The confidence to ask questions, make decisions, and hold people accountable
A willingness to learn estimating, scheduling, purchasing, job costing, and project management
A coachable attitude and a genuine desire to grow
A valid driver’s license and the ability to visit jobsites as needed

Experience with architectural panels, standing-seam roofing, coping, fascia, soffit, flashing, gutters, downspouts, or sheet metal fabrication is a plus.

$50,000–$75,000 annual base salary, depending on experience and qualifications
