As an integral part of the Coastline team, the successful candidate report to the Director Area Agency on Aging/Planning. You’ll use strong writing, photography, video, and digital skills to tell Coastline’s story through Senior Scope while supporting Coastline’s communications and marketing efforts. You’ll play an important role in building meaningful connections with our community and strengthening Coastline’s presence across digital platforms.
Essential Functions & Qualifications
- Produce and oversee the monthly 12-page Senior Scope publication, including writing, editing, photography, graphics, layout, and production.
- Develop engaging, community-focused content for South Coast seniors through reporting, interviews, feature stories, and community submissions.
- Coordinate publication schedules, advertising, submissions, vendors, and distribution activities.
- Ensure content is accurate, reader-friendly, and consistent with Associated Press Stylebook (AP Style) guidelines.
- Maintain the Senior Scope website, archives, distribution information, subscriber records, and monthly e-newsletter.
- Support Coastline’s communications and marketing efforts through website updates, social media, press releases, photography, video, and digital content.
- Create flyers, advertisements, banners, and other promotional materials using graphic design tools such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Studio.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with readers, advertisers, community partners, and media contacts.
- Strong writing, editing, interviewing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and fact-check content.
- Basic photography, video production, and editing skills, with the ability to create engaging short-form content for social media.
- Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other digital platforms.
- Experience or knowledge of website content management systems, such as WordPress or similar platforms, are a plus.
- Demonstrated skills in electronic publishing, graphic design, web development, social media marketing, and multimedia production.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field required.
- Proven three to five years’ experience in writing and editing for newspaper/print and social media.
