Duke's is looking for a Hydro Excavation Truck Operator to join our Plymouth, MI-based crew!
As the Hydro Excavation Truck Operator, you will support critical underground utility projects. Our Operators are at the forefront of safely exposing and protecting utilities using specialized hydro vac truck equipment. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and customer service. Every day brings a new challenge and the chance to make a real difference! In this role, you’ll play a key role in keeping essential infrastructure safe and reliable.
This position may require travel in and out of state based on project location. Business travel expenses are paid including lodging, transportation, and daily meal per diem!
- Abide by all safety policies and procedures, including wearing required PPE for your safety
- Safely operate a hydro vac truck to carefully excavate and expose critical underground utilities including gas, water, electric, sanitary, and telecommunications lines, while ensuring accuracy and protecting surrounding infrastructure
- Perform thorough pre- and post-trip inspections, along with routine maintenance and minor repairs, to keep all equipment in excellent operating condition and reduce the risk of downtime
- Mobilize, transport, and operate specialized equipment at job sites, consistently following established safety guidelines and environmental protocols to protect both crew members and the community
- Accurately complete all required documentation, including time sheets, equipment logs, and detailed project reports, ensuring all information is submitted on time and meets company standards
- Provide assistance and support to fellow crew members as needed, fostering a safe, collaborative, and efficient team environment on every assignment
- Operate easement and off-road equipment, manage the hauling or towing of additional support equipment, and assist with meeting specialized site access requirements to ensure projects are completed successfully

- Are at least 21 years of age
- Have at least six (6) months of experience operating hydro vac truck trucks
- Have a valid CDL A or B with a clean MVR record; tanker endorsement and air brakes required.
- Are willing to undergo background check, MVR check, pre-employment drug screen, and DOT physical for DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate
- Are willing to travel in and out of state up depending on project needs, with occasional weekend work required as needed
- Are willing and able to lift and carry up to 65+ pounds multiple times per day, navigate uneven ground, and perform physically demanding tasks
- Are comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and within confined spaces (i.e., manhole), often involving kneeling, crawling, and physical maneuvering
- Have working knowledge of digital tools like smartphones, tablets, email, and data collection systems, or willing to learn new technology
- Have strong verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with field crews
- Are willing and able to safely use fall protection gear, gas monitors, ventilation systems, and full PPE including boots, safety vest, hard hat, gloves, and eye/ear protection
- Are capable of performing all job responsibilities in environments that may include sewage, strong odors, noise, humidity, and extreme temperatures
- Can complete all job tasks with or without reasonable accommodation
