Full Job Description

About Garden Academy

Garden Academy is a non-profit school for children with autism spectrum disorder between the ages of 3- and 21-years old. Its mission is to improve the lives of those affected by autism through a family-centered, behavior analytic approach to education, outreach to communities, and ongoing contact with and contributions to the scientific field. Job Summary

We are looking for energetic and motivated teachers to join our highly supportive program comprised of small class sizes with BCBA and BCBA- D oversight in each class!

Under the direction of the classroom BCBA and Clinical Director, our teachers provide one-to-one instruction as required by the assigned student(s) individualized educational plan (IEP). Teachers oversee their classrooms Direct Instruction program in collaboration with the classroom BCBA. Teachers collect, maintain, graph, and analyze student data. Teachers provide ongoing feedback to classroom team on student’s progress and concerns. Teachers provide parent training in the school, community, and/or home on a weekly basis.

Requirement: Valid NJ DOE Teacher of Students with Disabilities Standard Certificate

Job Responsibilities:

Assures students’ IEPs are implemented as written
Assists in the selection of appropriate instructional materials
Participates in developing goals and objective response definitions for individualized academic or treatment programs for assigned students
Participates in specifying data collection procedures for individualized academic or treatment programs for assigned students
Assists in specifying instructional or treatment procedures for individualized programs for assigned students
Assures regular data summary/data analysis for assigned student or students
Develops the classroom's daily schedule
Insures consistent implementation of students’ behavior intervention plans
Assures compliance with all state testing requirements
Prepares quarterly progress report materials for assigned students
Participates in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP)
Oversees the implementation of Direct Instruction for students in his/her classroom
Participates in case conferences as needed

Staff Development and Training

Accepts ongoing review and feedback from supervisors and trainers, and acts on such feedback
Maintains open communication with co-workers, regularly communicates information on child progress to co-workers
Participates regularly in school staff meetings, joint staff meetings, staff development days, pre-service training, in-service training and other training opportunities
At the request of supervisors, attends workshops and training sessions and completes training assignments

Home Programs, Transitions, and Follow-up Programs

Assures that assigned family or families receive individualized training sessions up to four times per month or more as needed
Monitors assigned parents’ implementation of home programs. Graphs and reviews parents’ home data
Participates in the development of objective response definitions, data collection procedures and instruction and treatment procedures to be implemented by assigned parents at home
Assures regular data summary and data analysis on assigned child(ren)’s home programs and transition programs and assures changes in programming as needed
As needed, attends, and participates in parent meetings

Program Monitoring and Evaluation

Participates in colleague evaluations, by evaluating colleagues and supervisors and being evaluated by colleagues and supervisors
Participates in review of children’s individualized instruction and treatment programs as needed
Participates in inspections and evaluations as needed
Assures that relevant credentials (e.g., resume, fingerprint records) are submitted as requested by supervisors
Organizes and maintains curricula and instructional and leisure materials and contributes to their orderly display and storage
Reports on-the-job injuries promptly to supervisors and completes accident/incident reports in a timely manner
Records and monitors data pertaining to children’s health care and medical problems as requested
As directed, purchases instruction and leisure materials and child program supplies and submits itemized receipts

Ethical Standards

Performs all assigned program activities in a manner compatible with program policy, standards set forth by regulating agencies and in a manner consistent with the professional literature of the field
Participates in ensuring that informed consent has been obtained for all relevant instruction and treatment activities for assigned child(ren)
Maintains confidentiality about students’ instruction and treatment goals and progress; protects students’ anonymity
Participates in assuring that assigned children receive effective, individualized intervention services
Maintains professional relationships and professional interaction style with colleagues, program personnel, students and their representatives, and members of the community-at-large; protects and extends the reputation of the program
Participates in maintaining a clean and safe environment

Record Keeping and Financial Management

Submits timesheets in an accurate and timely fashion
Maintains program files and records in an orderly fashion; accepts record-keeping tasks as assigned

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or a related field
New Jersey Standard Teaching Certificate for Students with Disabilities
Experience working with children with autism or related disorders using the principles of ABA is preferred
Experience with implementing Direct Instruction in a group setting is preferred
